On a slight tangent, the GM/Fuji Heavy link is substantial, I believe that GM took ownership of 20% (?) of Fuji Heavy last year and there were rumours of Saab/Scooby platform sharing!!!
Interesting to see what happens, maybe we will get cars with Subaru's build quailty and Saabs chassis, Hmm sure that'll be nice...

IM = International Motors, official UK Subaru importers. (NB Fuji Heavy Industries, Subaru manufacturers, don't make colour film!)
STi = Subaru Technica International, Subaru's sporting arm, like Ford's Cosworth, Mercedes AMG etc.
PPP = Prodrive Performance Pack (ecu, exhaust and intercooler upgrade).
APR = Automotive Products Racing, or AP Racing.
SS = ScoobySport, as in SS downpipe, or SS/BB = SS back-box.
SIDC = Subaru Impreza Drivers' Club.
There are loads more, IMHO. LOL

So,
1. Do IM also import Izuzu?
2. Do Fuji Heavy Industries manufacture Izuzu?
Either or both would explain why the scoob dealers I know of seem to have a joint Subaru / Izuzu franchise.

Actually, thinking about it there was also a tie in years ago with Vauxhall and the S.I group. I know that the "Frontera" ( hehehe ) has an Isuzu engine, but back in the early 80's, I worked for a Vauxhall dealership that was one of many selling Vauxhall's and Subaru's from the same site.

IM Group Ltd - started off in 1976 from the ashes of Jensen Motors - Luxury car makers (at one time the biggest employer in West Brom)
First started importing Subaru in 1977, imported Maserati & De Tomaso for a couple of years, then in 1981 became the importer for Hyundai cars, 1986 bought the failed Isuzu importer based in Kent and turned it around, 1993 sold Hyundai to Lex, 1994 became importers of SsangYong 4x4, 96-97 had a struggle with GM over rights to sell Isuzu as GM wanted Vauxhall to sell them (and did), IM took GM to court in the USA and won!!,1999 Daewoo bought SsangYong in Korea and Daewoo took the rights to sell SsangYong as rebadged Daewoos (shame!), and in 2000 IM bought Daihatsu (UK) from Inchcape.
IM also import vehicles into Sweden, FInland, Baltic States, France, parts of Africa, and Ireland.
IM also bought a large property company in 1993 and now have a huge properties arm (IM Properties) with mucho dosho!
And just to make you all sick - turnover in 1999 was £320Million!! and its all owned by one man - Robert Edmiston.
All above a potted history of IM Group Ltd from Companies House website.

I think it stands for International Motors ?
But I'm not sure........ However, how many of you knew this little gem ?
The first president of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), Kenji Kita, had some definite opinions on the subject of automobiles. "If you're going to build a car, build a full-fledged car." "Japanese cars should have Japanese names." Mr. Kita was ardent about producing passenger cars and
was the most passionate of all about the 1954 prototype of the Company's first passenger car, the P-1. naar nar na naar naaaar !

pslewis/mixit,
Thanks for your replies, now I can make more sense of the posts. I assume that IM deal with imports??
Bob,
Nice to know I wasn't the only one - I'm sure there were many others who didn't know, but were too afraid to ask
Cheers,
Tom

Their sole purpose in life is to keep the UK customers happy - those that bought UK at UK prices at UK dealers.........or thats what they are SUPPOSED to do
They fail sometimes
Pete - the man who paid for a week of their wages and got a slapped face in return
What the hell what goes around ....
