In Melbourne for a few days and can't believe how many Scoobs are around. They certainly still love them down here! Mind you, they also seem to think they are going to regain the Ashes in the next few weeks...

Too much money down there mate.
It's weird, because it just makes everything expensive and you are no better off.
Maybe the idea is to earn a bag of money and then live here?
Trouble with those plans is that by the time you have earned your swag you have usually settled in and end up stuck there.
So to you Aussies out there, if cross paths with a poor British tourist, take him under your wing and by him a schooner of beer or something - it's only a tenner after all

The boy lives in Adelaide and gets 4 Times the salery he did in the uk as a specialist nurse
Amd pays half our tax being NHS
His girlfriend gets $800 for looking pretty in a shop a week
Great lifestyle
Spends $150 a week on food against our £80 a week in uk
Gas and electric cheap

He paid $300000 for a Suzuki swift sport against our 15 k over here
I was in the Subaru dealership
$64000 for a new STi against we were selling them at 27k
And they were selling a BRZ for immediate delivery instead of waiting 6months for a whopping $98000
The boy has a vision of coming back to uk on holiday
Getting a m3 for £54 k and putting it on the boat for £5k and selling it over there for over $100000

Second hand scoobys

My beloved green wagon
No problem sir
£1800-£2000 here

Adelaide he saw a my00 turbo for $20000 and it was gone a week later
As they are sought after as a cult car despite 50mph speed on the motor ways and 25 moh in town. Woth speed cameras everywhere and $600 fines if your naughty

Cheap cars are (Vauxhall ) and newts which are trendy 5ltr pickups in bright colours

Cruises are great fun convoys of cars driving to different locations in a mad race of 60klm

Looking forward to going back next year once I save up enough money for 3 cupcakes and 3 coffee for fifty dollars and ice cream at five dollars

Adelaide is boring - but relatively cheap - which when you need to get on the property ladder is very relevant to your lifestyle choices.
Most of the crap areas to the North and South of the city are traditionally inhabited by English immigrants, for that very reason.
They don't have so much of a welfare state there, so taxes lower and people show a bit more initiative and a bit less entitlement - but not that much.

Yes property isn't too bad where he lives in the north although nowhere near elizabeth /port adelaide which is a bit dodgy

Nice 3 bedroomed detached bungalow can be bought for $250-350k where he lives and isn't too bad for commenting only half an hour for him and his gf

Glenelg is my favourite part although property is $500 to a million but is a classy place
I've told him as along as he gets a decent place with a separate west wing will do for me and the misses so we can get part time weekend jobs at $40 per hour

As an idea, my partner has just bought a bug 2.0 sport over here for a run-about. $4000 with 240kms, that's classic wrx money in England right?

Do you mean 'utes' not 'newts'. As in utility vehicle? Just in case you wanted to transport your fridge in a Holden V8 ute !

Yes highway patrol are way more aggressive cracking down on speeding etc here, than I have experienced in England

Yes utes
Corrective spelling duh

Very trendy pickups look the part
The boy started off with an old Holden but he said it handled like a boat hence the swift sport although he needs something a bit bigger now for the bikes and surfboards

Yeah, Glenelg is cool. Port Adelaide is on the up I'm told
More of a Hills type myself.
Some of those roads in a Subaru would be brilliant - if only the cops took a day off
