Looks nice.

I take it you're aware of the well documented piston and head gasket problems some 2.5s suffer from? If not:

I personally wouldn't even entertain a 2.5 unless it had been forged or the price was low enough to allow for a build. Id rather buy an earlier 2.0 sti and stick a hawk front on it.

Why do you need one? Given up on the classic?

I would steer clear of a Hawk unless you can afford a JDM hawk, or you can budget £3k for a forged rebuild. Which will need to be done it's inevitable.
I'd go Late spec Blob STI or as said above early spec Blob STI or Bug STI and Hawk the front end.

Your looking close to £2.5k to convert a blob to hawk!!! might aswell get the hawk engine forged at that money!!!!

Agreed. Plus it will be hard to sell on as people will think it's been in a smash.

Very nice - virtually the same as mine (1 year newer and 10k miles more but roughly the same price I paid for mine over a year ago).

From what I've read it seems that the WRX don't suffer as much as the STis on engine issues - but don't quote me. The WRX's also seem to have an easier life with their drivers not exactly into "thrashing them". The 2.5 litre is a fab engine so much more refined than my classic was and ideally suited for cruising rather then thrashing. If you like driving hard then I agree 100% with the advice given on a forged engine or JDM Hawk with the 2.0l but then I'd imagine that you'd already be looking at an STi rather than a WRX.

Rear suspension can get the knock but I see that it's on adjustables so I guess that shouldn't be an issue with this one.

I had mine "inspected" by an independent specialised for a couple of hundred quid and it was worth every penny for piece if mind.

The hawk is by far the best looking Subaru out there IMHO and the addition of a few subtle mods (roof spoiler, front splitter and change of wheels) really make it.

I'm not an expert and that's only my 2 penny worth - have fun.

Yup £2500 is about the going rate

The car doesn't look too sad tbh, not my cup of tea in anyway shape or form but it looks in good condition
