Sounds like a snapped cable. U should be abit to open it by getting access from the inner quarter through the boot. Or try taking the pull handle off it could have broke the ball off the end if the cable if that's what holds it in. Chase the cable back

id say the cable has come out of the part that holds it in in the lever end.

there is a part that holds the outer cable so when you pull the lever only the inner cable moves and pops the flap, sometimes the outer cable part comes out so when you pull the lever the whole cable moves and doesnt pull the inner cable enough to pop flap

Ahhh. Ok. I assumed it might have been something like this. I can hear it working at the flap end? Just not enough it seems

yup that sounds like it.
youre pulling the whole cable as the outer cable is moving too when lever is pulled so the inner cable doesnt move enough to pop flap.

Had the same thing - try getting someone to push down the flap on the opposite end of the release mechanism when you're pulling the lever. It should release.

The plastic part of the release clip becomes brittle over time- part no 57651FA040 - Clip (fuel lock) £ 2.00 from Subaru.

Hope this works.
