I took my RB to Paul & Finch Motorsport for it's forged re-build.
Not local, but he really knows his stuff!

API at Leamington Spa did my 2.5 STI forged rebuild.
Been ragging it with mapped 370 bhp (including seven track days) for 25K and it ain't missed a beat.
They'll flat bed pick it up at very reasonable rates.
They are very popular, so there may be a waiting period before they start.
They keep you up to speed on what they are doing, which helps a bit though.

Three Arches Garage, Cardiff.

Dean is your man to speak too, very knowledgeable and have never heard a bad word said, plenty of the SWS lot have used them.

Or as stated above, Anthony at Indigo GT in Tredegar, these have a fantastic reputation in the Evo world, building some monstrous cars, and i know they work on Subarus a lot (last time i visited they were revuilding a Spec D with a shed load of Cosworth goodies.

Good luck :-)

Location is important, especially when there is a perfectly good garage on his door step.
Not everyone spouts how good they are, modesty is a great quality.

Dean and Dan at Three Arches garage Cardiff. Both were the subaru main dealers mechanics in Cardiff for many many years. Dean was their chief mechanic and Dan was an apprentice of his from age 16 and he must now be approaching 30. They are both very meticulous. I trusted them completely with my modded Spec C.

If he's got someone good on his doorstep then fair play, all I'm saying is that's its too much of an important job to let location be the deciding factor.

And when I say reputation I mean testimonials from customers who've had work done and got what they paid for.

Hi Wig the quotes I have had so far are

Three Arches £2800 for complete re-build the guy I spoke to Dean he is very good mind knows his stuff and very helpful

API £1800 re-built with either same crank if it is useable gaskets etc again they knew their stuff and very helpful

Paul & Finch Motorsport £2300 complete re-build and agin knew their stuff and very helpful

I haven't phoned any more yet as I need to start saving lol. I might just try and get hold of a short block or complete second hand engine until I have enough to completely re-build with forged internals

He did it changing the clutch (at the time he repaired the HG).
He was pretty clueless - he also seemed to think the oil light staying on for 3-5 sec on start up was normal. Turned out to be a fractured oil pick up pipe in the sump.
Nothing is guaranteed in life, but if you like the sound of someone many on here have recommended, then pay them a visit or give them a call.
ps I did 90K on the original engine before the bozo above got his hands on it. 10 K later took it to API who rebuilt it and also found the clutch fitted had two broken springs. Weird that the original clutch lasted 90K and the "uprated Exedy Pink" did not work properly from the word go.
