she is mapped! and the results are impressive!
So, today enginetuner pulled out all the stops to get my car mapped and sorted out.
4 years ago and 20+k miles ago they built the engine for the car, a s206 turbo, 2.1 stroker v3 open deck wrx engine, with standard v3 cams and heads.
On the original maps it made 450hp on low boost and 517hp on high boost.
Now I have had a 2.5 sump and pick up fitted along with a decent equal length manifold from the states, and the results just show that when a decent manifold is fitted how much more power can be had along with spool and make it rev much free-er!
On the new maps, low boost made 484.9hp, and high boost made 532.3hp.
The annoying drop off at high rpm is gone, it pulls all the way to the red line. It builds boost faster, and is much more revvy, especially coupled with the short ratio 6sp box!
I can't wait to drive it and see what it is like!

Yep, I beieive I was slightly incorrect as to the 2.7 bar it runs at 2.1 but peaks higher on the drag map., so still higher but I believe not quite 2,7 as I was led to belve when I first acquired the car. Kind of hard to tell as most boost gauges only go up to two bar so it was checked when it was mapped today.

I was considering a cdb but recently been seeing 400 + out of a uk engine, I have a spare identical 1999 uk2000 turbo engine with bent exhaust valves, im thinking get this rebuilt or have a go myself (I have a senior saab chevy mechanic mate who can help) what would my plan be , looking at the mo for 350 350 max ,would forging the uk engine ?

It is peaking higher than the 2..1 bar and dropping off back to 2.1. So yeah not quite 2.7 but not far off.
Well a decent manifold constitutes equal length, titianium steel and v band connections. None of this rcm/hapspeed/gt rubbish etc! I honestly don't see why everyone usues stuff like that!

The boost ran when it made 517bhp was 2.1 bar in road tune, as I said the drag map on it is drag specific as the loading is much different.
Better to say that you run 2.1 bar on the road but have a drag specific map that if usewd on the road peaks a bit higher than that.
So yeah... That is all, and at the end off the day the headers prove they are giving a definite increase over gt/rcm etc! And I'm still achieving far better times than 90% of people on here, and will be looking for a 10sec 1/4 mile next year.
So yes I was mistaken about the 2.7, and it was a genuine mistake as I got crossed wires with my friend about it. No big deal, I have been corrected and that is fine.
Either way I still make 532hp on standard heads, cams etc and its still going strong. And the times speak for themselves the fact that I need less boost makes it even better in my eyes

Being fair, the figures don't lie!
We were a bit iffy about the new headers, but no question, they certainly work. The issue for a lot of people is the sound, as in not like a Scooby, being equal length.
They took a bit of fitting as the stock parts such as sandwich plate, modine etc needed work and the sump had to be changed. We kept the after market oil cooler and deleted the modine.
The headers themselves looked well made, and certainly cost more, but if you want performance, there you go!
We've been left impressed.

You'd be mistaken Ryan, they are worth every penny !
The response is vastly improved, the high end much smoother with less drop off and the fact that they may actually last a good bit longer than the GT spec version sell them to me.

If we were building a high power car from scratch right now, I'd say they might be worth considering feeding into the mix.
Of course, we don't have any long term test feedback as to serviceability, although I'd say the design would allow for easier crack repair than the GT spec offers.

I know what you mean Alyn, although if we are still seeing a gain some 4 yrs later I wonder what it might have been when the engine was still box fresh
Killer B have done some testing VS OE and other aftermarket headers that you can see on NASIOC.com !
As I've mentioned above, the purpose of this exercise was never to back to back them anyway, more to replace the owners 3rd set of cracked GT headers with something that should last a bit longer.
I feel his pain after recently opening up the collector of my own GT spec headers and have them welded them to repair a blow.

More boost doesn't always equal more performance.
What makes you think you're not going to spit out another shim?

I probably will at some point in time. But its not the end of the world, got the engine removal down to a t now lol! And especially with my new workshop etc!
At the end of the day the engine was never built for this amount of power, and the fact it has done 4yeard and 20+k miles is real testament as to how much abuse these can really take. It is driven hard every single time it goes out.
I have just driven back from engine tuner on the meth map, and it is savage, I didn't get to give it proper beans as the road was wet and it was spinning all 4 wheels up in 4th gear.
The power delivery Is so much smoother, the boost is building from like 2.7k now and you can hear the turbo spooling a lot earlier. The pull all the way through the gears is insane, its not relentless, definitely pulls a lot harder and smoother.
Really is a night and day difference to the gt spec/japspeed/rcm. Makes for a much better drive how she is now.
I even had to stop because the mrs thought she was going to be sick it pulls that hard hah!
