Default Clarification needed please.

So I answered a question on the fb page and now what I always thought was correct is being questioned.

Could someone please clarify for my own sanity.

Long story short.

I said that you would need a remap to fit an uprated fuel pump. I then found a thread from Bob Rowle explaining why you did need to have a map.

The guys on the page have said that they respect his knowledge etc but it's not true.

I then asked a genuine question of what's the benefit of uprated pump with out a map to tell it what to do.

The reason I ask is I have a brand new pump and have not fitted it because I thought a map was a must.

Steve Evans.

I'm not fussed on people's opinion of that page. I know there are a lot of idiots on it and I block out the stupid comments questions etc.

I've heard various opinions about this topic. I didn't have a map tweak after swapping my 255 for a 310. But usually, an uprated fuel pump mod is part of a few mods which obviously require a map tweak.
Very rarely would someone just fit an uprated fuel pump and nothing else.

Why are you fitting an uprared fuel pump ??

I wouldn't have thought you would need a map for just a fuel pump, if other items then yes, thought the pump was passive and pumped fuel at a given rate. Any fuel not used was returned. So " my" understanding is that an increased fuel supply wouldn't effect a standard car.

So yes, you will require a map.
As I said, very rarely will someone fit just an uprated fuel pump.

I doubt you will need a remap just for a fuel pump mate, all the ecu will do is give it some power to prime it on ign on, then all it needs is +12v to run on.

It may certainly increase fuel flow and pressure, but if the fuel pressure regulator is still the same then once it sees x psi the rest of the fuel will just be returned to the tank as per the norm.

So get it fitted and not worry.

Although everyone on here says you need a remap for every single thing you do to a scooby... Even if you fart in the car, you will need it remapped!

Uprated Fuel pump.is precautionary measure to make sure you have enough juice
for the stage 1up upgrades.and not an ecu controlled variable thats the injectors job.

A bit late posting , but I'd have thought the idea of a remap would be to unlock the potential of the better fuel pump (along the lines of Matty's comment), not the other way around. So if you're happy with the fuel delivery why do anything extra?

If the fuel pump was knackered it would make sense to replace with better anyway.

And in any case, in the words of one knowledgeable member of the SSS, 'what does Bob Rawle know about engines anyway, he sells remaps?' (or words to that effect I believe).

The fuel pressure regulator controls the pressure in the fuel rails. So the effect of fitting a higher spec pump will have no issues. All you are doing by fitting a higher spec pump is future proofing your car.
My uprated pump has been in for about 4 years now and last year whilst considering further mod's, after a few Vodka and cokes I ordered a Swirl pot and a BOSCH 044 pump with fittings and pipework. I plan on fitting these over winter as I know pumps do wear which is the main reason you fit a uprated pump when you are modding your car.

The Bosch 044 pump is very good, and for applications where your using a swirl pot its fine, you can use the standard pump to fill the swirl pot, but like on mine, its the same age as the car.

so rather than buying 2 pumps and a swirl pot and associated fittings, i would probably opt for the single high flow pump option.
this of course depends on expected power levels, and if you track the car a lot its a worth while investment to guard against fuel surge.

also with an additional pump, there is one more thing to go wrong lol.

i used the 044 on my old car, proalloy fuel cell with internal collector and an 044 pump

So currently i have an early bugeye (2001). No doubt the fuel pump that is in it has been there from day dot. I have a brand new scooby worx fuel pump. So what i guess im saying is that im ok to fit this without a map and all will be good. Plan for Saturday then
