Cat converter
Evening all. Quick question.....I have a 97 type R which is fitted with a decat down pipe (has been mapped). My MOT has just expired....is there any chance it will pass emissions without a cat or am I just dreaming?

Dreaming, and even if it did it would still fail, as of march 2012 if a vehical was fitted with a cat it needs to be present (vosa). You either need to fit a catted downpipe which will be ok for just the mot even with your remap, just swap it back after or you need to speak to some local garages and see if you can get it passed by checking another car for that part of the test. You cannt just walk in and ask as most places will say no, they will get fined and loose their liceance if they get caught. So softly softly

Grrrrrrrrr..................ok so I am just in the middle of fitting the cat converter I bought and.........problems. First of which, there doesn't seem to be a boss for the O2 sensor on the subaru cat converter I have, it is apparently from a V3 Type RA, and mine's a V3 Type R..........should these be the same?? I presume running without an O2 sensor will just put me back to square 1 and fail emissions? Added a picture of the downpipe I've taken off and the cat I want to fit for reference - the cat converter looks to have a temp sensor or something whereas the aftermarket downpipe has a standard type O2 sensor screwed into it.

I have this same issue, I brought mine decatted and ended up buying a good condition cat just for the mot, took mine down pipe off and noticed the sensors was different. ( Found out after) I was trying to fit a 1993-1997 cat to a 99-00 car, they looked the same, apart from one was a 2 pin connector (like your photo) after the car and my car had a block 4 pin conector before the cat. As I wanted to return the car back to decatted after I didn't want to cut the wires to see if I could "bodge" it, I needed up refitting the decat downpipe, popped the cat in the boot and explained the issue to the nice man at the mot centre. Car passed with the help of a little ford ka, I can sent you a link to a new ( correct cat you need) http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/...dacac82&000059 I don't know why if both cars was the same version it would be different

Or does the O2 sensor screw into the standard middle section (which I don't have) rather than into the downpipe itself like on my aftermarket one?? Forgive me ignorance - I'm new to imprezas
