Default (Non-Scooby) car electronics advice

A bit out of place on here I know but at least I'll get reasoned advice rather than risk the racers where this post is more appropriate - on a Corsa Forum.

My daughter's SRi has had to have a new ECU but it can't be installed because the BCM isn't the right one for the car, so apparently the codes won't match.
A Vauxhall Pass has revealed this, and the only way around it is a new BCM at around £400 (on top of the £600 for the ECU, direct from a Vauxhall dealer, the only way to get them apparently).

a) Does this make sense to anyone, and if so can you explain ?
b) Is it baloney that I've passed on?

The dealer that sold her (aided and abetted by her mother) the car will be having a visit from me later this week, so I need a little bit of Corsa savvy to start with.

The legal niceties (if it comes to that) I can handle.............

Thanks in advance.

Oh - and I promise it will be the first and only time they (wife and daughter) do anything like this without even telling me.

PS it's out of warranty !

on quite a few newer cars everything has to match IE: ecu, electrics module, key reader ring, immob module. so yes he may be telling the truth depends if thats how the corsa works but you could try this place as they maybe able to repaire your old one or blank the new one to match i have used them in the past for ecu matching and they have allways been very good and helpfull.

Thanks.

I should mention that I don't actually disbelieve the mechanic who's tried to do the work (at the moment).
He thinks that the engine might have been replaced (he's checking it against the V5 tonight), so the brand spanking new ECU isn't matching up to it, and of course he can't ID the car the BCM is off.

I've got a load of hassle coming up, I just know it, because my daughter bought the thing 11 months ago.
It's going to be a nightmare to gently 'urge' the dealers into sorting it.

I'm already gearing up for a big battle over it.
Misrepresenting goods is just the start.

Thanks again.

If the engine has been changed then yes it could be a "fun" job, as said worst case give bba a bell and i'm sure they could virginise(if thats a proper word) your ecu so it will work with the other electric modules.

if it's anything like the subaru BCM and VDC ECU they are a one time fit only and use the country code and vehicles vin to program them. once there programmed then thats it, it cant be undone

Where is the car mate. I know a guy who can most probably Virginise them and then recode them all together. He did a customers clip for me before and Renault said it couldn't be done. He is based in the midlands mate

Thanks fellow members.

I'll answer you all at once.

It sounds like the dealer hasn't realised what he's bought and then sold, but that's their lookout.

b road blaster's (love the moniker !) recommendation will be contacted, as will J44CE's (once he knows I live in the S Wales Valleys, so the Midlands isn't too far away).

I should say that an ECU guru has apparently been utilised by the guy who's looked at the car, but that doesn't stop a second opinion.

Rob and b road have confirmed what I've been told, that it is a specific type/match, which has reinforced my faith in the guy that's trying to sort it.

You are stars, and it's much appreciated .

Cheers.
