Mappable only via adding a duaghterboard to the ecu or replacing it with a standalone (Simtek, alcatek,Syvecs etc).
Engine is 20 years old so cannot say how strong it is as it all depends on how it's been treated but with supporting mods 300bhp is attainable (but even then that may be pushing it)
Better seats imo, gearbox is shorter than UK,more power as standard, don't get headlight washers, have a Bright button other than that not too much different iirc

Depends who you insure with.
A specialist wont charge anymore for an import.

Parts for a JDM are pretty much just as easy to get hold of now, and all Impreza specialists will have seen enough of them to get any major work done just as easily. For the age of car you mention, the JDM is just as easy to look after and is a slightly better car.

1. Better interior, more power.
2. Its 20 years old so I wouldn't go pushing it too far.
3. Yes, ALL imprezas are mappable. Certain models just require a different technique. ESL for the early cars.
