Car Mileage
Hi Guys,
I am looking to buy an 05 widetrack STI, it has 61.5K on clock with 5 previous owners.
Is the mileage about right for this year? appreciate your thoughts.

I wouldn't worry about how many owners as these are bucket list cars and quite thirsty too, plenty of folks can afford to buy them but it doesn't take long for them to realise that if your hooning about in one expect to get around 15mpg and less, even if you take your time you'll struggle to see 25mpg, add that to main dealer servicing costs, tyres and brakes and one of these beauties can soon mess with your cash flow big time.

Thanks Guys,
I was skeptical about being owner number 6, however I agree (having owned an 06 blob) that the running costs can be higher than first anticipated.
Cambelt done, tyres new all round, upgraded sound / speakers, - enginer is enough noise for me! I will be using as weekend car during summer months with the odd drive here and there on a crisp winters morning! So cant image I will put on more than 3 k buy this time next year.

I wouldn't worry about number of owners, I'm number 6 on mine took me ages to find 1 that had been cared for, even with the high number of owners, it's only been used as a weekend car and had only had 4-5k miles a year put on from new with full Subaru history! I wasn't going to let the high number of owners put me off a mint condition, mechanically sound and unmolestered example
Don't let it put you off

Thanks Guys,
I will be lucky number 7!
The previous owner before the current owner, had the car as a weekend toy, then part ex'd for R8?! - put all mods on too, a bit of an eccentric it sounds like! The current owner bought the car in Feb this year, selling due to wanting cash for business.

It certainly looks a good one. I don't think he quite understands the DCCD though, and it wasn't an 'optional extra' as far as I know.
Don't forget to look hard underneath for rust if you go to see it. Shiny tops (and plastic undertrays) can hide crusty bottoms.

IMO, Mileage is no concern - it's more about the Person you are buying it from.
I usually talk lots to the owner, look at his lifestyle, what type of person he/she is etc.
For example, I ended up having a chat for 3 hours with previous owner of my bug sti when I was buying it - and the amount of info i gathered clearly showed that he was taking Very good care of the car, so i bought it with 78K on the clock (Being third owner)!
Now it's on 90k, pulling strong and I dont care about mileage.
Good luck with your new car!

Owners mean nothing and the condition of the car is what counts mate. Owners do NOT affect value. I have just purchay-esed a 92k 06 STI SPEC D, sold a 125k WRX that was sweet.
Only thing is it looks expensive IMO
If it looks sweet- do it

Here's the car mate:

My 2005 STI also had 5 owners, the last owner only ran it for 6 months - loss of job and huge petrol costs meant the car had to go as quickly as it came.

IMO most of what needs to be said has been but I'd add this.
One thing to consider is what I call the 'ownership pattern'.
If, as someone has said, every owner had the car for approx 19 months that to me is what you'd expect. Buy a car, have some use and move it on before you lose too much in depreciation.
Usually the first owner will only have a car until the warranty is up/MoT time etc., so 1st owner say two years or more and every other about 1-2 years that's to be expected.
However, if say owners 4,5 and 6 only had the car 6 months or so then you'd wonder why - did each of them experience a few bubbles in the header tank for example?
Ownership history is a useful - though small - tool when buying a car.

Just 5 minutes talking the seller - even before viewing - and I just knew that he was an enthusiast who would have been giving the car exactly the right treatment.
Someone who talks about the car they're selling as going 'like **** off a shovel', or that it can 'burn a fezza ST better than a BBQ' isn't likely to have looked after it as much as someone who says 'these have a reputation for piston failures so I took the precaution of having forged internals put in'.

From all that's been said, this looks like a good 'un, so I'm sure the owner will be pleased to let you have a good look underneath as there won't be anything there that they're worried about.
