Default Whats this noise? Vid attached.

Trying to identify what this noise is. All i can say is that its metal type of rattle.

The heat shield is fully secure. You also hear this noise whilst driving, regardless whether your on boost or not.

It's 'synchronised' to the engine revs as far as I can tell.

Pulley/belt squeaking somewhere (although it does sound more metallic) ?

its definitely metal type of noise, and to me its sounds like its coming from around the turbo.

Its not very clear from the video could it by any chance be the heatshield at the back of the turbo cartridge? I had it before on my jeep exhaust gum sorted it

The heat shield is solid mate. Checked all the nuts. Could be inside the turbo? Car still boosts spot on and holds it right.

Im on about the heatshield that protects the turbo bearings inside, if it sounds like its scraping it could be that

I'm not an engine expert by any means (as you're about to find out).

I presume that you can starve the turbo of exhaust ie. have the car running without the turbo powered?
If so, that would prove if it is something to do with the turbo.

Fine.
Its gives the op an idea of how involved (or not) it is and helps to decide.

Be different if it was a whole morning's work.

Cheers.

On a subie it does take a while give yourself plenty of time especially if studs are old and seized, dependant on tools avail a mornings work would do, if its a relatively new turbo a bit less

I'm struggling to hear what you're talking about, but might be the one speaker on my ipad.

It looks like there's a bolt missing from the heat shield in the vid. My money's on it being the rest of the heat shield not being bolted down. Most likely someone's fitted a decat dp at some time and either snapped or lost a couple of the bolts. There is a shield underneath too which you might need to view from under the car.

I dont know to be honest. i did split it apart from housing to have a nose around. The back blades had like a metal thing that looked like it should have been attached to the turbo housing, that just span around . If thats what you mean.

Sorry for the sh!te description. lol
