Is anyone running newage sti running gear in a classic?
Folks,
Is there anyone running their classic with a newage sti engine, turbo & gearbox etc?
If so hears exactly needed barring the aforementioned? How much roughly would it cost & who did the work? I'm weighing up my options of whether I create a bit of a sleeper or just move onto something else!
Cheers

Been thinking about this for my classic, or i could just buy a nice newage sti and have both. But I don't really have time to drive two to warrant the extra tax insurance etc. I'm guessing its easy £3/4k for the work to be done.

I'm sure Cotton Competition of Garstang did this a short while ago.

I'm not sure if this helps your question but I am running a 98 block in my 01 wagon with the 01 heads etc, all we had to change was the the way the starter motor threaded onto it's mount.....2 minute job with a decent drill bit.

If you can do the work yourself your looking at £3k absolute minimum, if you can't then it's realistically going to cost double that by the time you have it all up and running and mapped, and that's only for around 350bhp if you want anything above that add another couple of grand, then you need to think about brakes and suspension to the tune of at least another 12/1500 quid.
General rule of thumb is it takes about £10k to get a genuine 400+ bhp classic that stops and goes around corners and will be reliable enough to use it as one should, ie hammer the **** out of it over and over again.

Cheers for the replies guys. I'm looking at a budget of 4-5k max. I already have sti brembo brake set up front & rear & suspension is lowered with eibachs but Im also looking into a complete handling package to run along with the power upgrade.
cj - I'll have a nosey at your build thread cheers.
Question is whether I throw 5 bags at an old classic or do I sell up & buy a newage. I simply love classics but if I were to be sensible the newage would be a wiser choice but maybe not as much fun.
