Default Air con gases...

So I need to replace the air con compressor on our STI hatch as the new belt snapped and took out the pulley, or the other way around

Anyhow I'm unsure if there is any gas left in the system, if there any "legal" way of finding out if there's any left in bar taking it to a garage for a de-gas? I want to fit the compressor and new belt myself then just pay for a leak test and re-gas ideally.

Just let the gas out, who is going to do anything about it?

Just fit it you big girl in a wide open area , then get the garage to do the rest.

What about the thousands of pounds in fines you will have to pay if you get found out.

To do a regas the system it would first have to be fully degased them vacuumed then regased.

Take it to the garage get them to degas it, do the work then take it back to get it finished, in theory it shouldn't cost anymore

Its already in gaseous form, even in the pressurised air con system so it cant "boil" on release.
