Why so many scoobs broken?
Just been looking in the 'cars for breaking' section, and I'm really surprised at how many get broken, especially the higher specs. A lot seem to be fine aswell, perfectly good engines and/or shells etc.
So, how come?

Because it's easy to make a buck or two by tearing them to bits and selling them individually.
A ten year old car with 500bhp is worth say £7k.
If you strip it, the interior is worth £500
The brakes worth another £750
The engine is worth £3500
The gearbox £1000
Suspension around £1000
Panels £100-£250 each
Alloys £250 or more especially if they have good tyres
We've not covered all the other things that are high value yet already got back more than the car is worth for sale!
Ergo, older cars are worth less than the sum of their parts.

I was thinking the same the other day, started a quick spreadsheet and worked out that i'd be better of breaking mine than selling it i reckon which is quite sad really I've got a 2005 widetrack STi so certain bits are worth quite a bit, interior etc is quite sought after.
Dont think i could bring myself to do it as its spot on, but its kind of comforting to know if i do blow it up on track i can get alot of money back towards another project i guess..

Same as with the Cosworths Ellie, most breakers are worth more in bits than whole as has been said, but they keep the rest alive.
the more broken, the less on the road, the less on the road the value of the good ones will go up.
look at RS500's for example, 3 or 4 years ago they would sell complete for 25-35k for a mint one. now, you would be hard pressed to find a mint one for less than 75k!
im not saying that will happen with scoobs as there are millions of them, and they dont have the same heritage as the cosworths, nor are anywhere near as old.
i expect even standard cars will break for more than you could sell whole. i expect even my uk 300 is worth more in bits
