'box started off as a Rigoli drag auto but it's been broken and re-engineered so many times it's essentially a bespoke SMG customisation

Agreed, every improvment in time at this level takes a huge additonal chunk of power and dramatically increases the chance of breakages...especially to the drive train.

As far as I'm aware it is still auto but I have no idea which is quicker...and as I said in the first post I do not have detailed spec and if I did it's not my place to post it, Steve will share if he feels the need

Hi Guys,
Just signed up to give a bit of input. I'm the fat guy with the SMG T-Shirt and beard in the vids.
Nice to meet you at the weekend Ian.
The point about getting down to Andys' 6 cyl time is not something that we are targeting as that is technically a different class. It is interesting to us though as this weekend was effectively a starting point for this incarnation of the car. There are various adjustments available to us in the cars setup and we think that we are at about 70% of the power available to us.
As some may be aware of, the car is not Steve's full time job and is worked on in his spare time, away from his work at Roleys. This is as and when personal finances permit.
This means that any breakages up until now, have been sorted as and when.
Its probably taken 5 years of occasional running and breaking this build of the car to get it to this point. This is without starting to push and tweak various settings that have been built into the car.
With regards to the Rigoli box, it is an auto that was o.k. for mid 9 runs in its original form. It has been "worked on" to iron out any problems that we encounted. It has a manual valve body with ratchet shifter so Steve has to change gear himself. I don't have a massive understanding of the technical aspects of this but we do have to overcome about 35-40% transmission losses which I don't believe are as much of an issue with the sequential boxes.
Hopefully there will be more to come in the future. That's obviously as long as we don't start getting major grip issues or starting breaking things again.
Anyway, just thought I'd add a bit of info.
Cheers.

Just to add.
Bear in mind that the old build of the car was running low 9 seconds runs with it's previous quickest 9.123 as I recall.
The first clear, non broken, non-tweaked weekend for this build of the car ended up with an 8.66.
That's nearly half a second and, at this level, I'm pretty chuffed with it. I think that anyone that was at Shakey this weekend may well have noticed my reaction.
