Default Sell Or Break?

Morning All

I'm getting rid of my 2005 WRX but I don't know whether to sell or break.
I'll get much more for breaking it cos of the upgrades (I spent 5k on upgrades last year alone) but it's shame cos it's such a nice car.

Anyone / any breakers on here who can offer me advice?

Cheers

I was talking to a motor salvage trader (a breaker) the other day & asked him if it is possible to get more for a car breaking than selling whole.

He said it depends on the vehicle, so mentioned the classic Subaru Impreza, & he said you can get more for breaking then selling a whole car, hence the number of classics being broken.

He's got a forester, bottom end has gone, & only thing he's sold on that is a wing mirror in the last few months since he aquired it.

Alright matey.

It's an issue of much consternation for many of us that so many cars are being broken at the moment. I don't think we lose sleep over a crashed car being pulled to bits but some people are stripping low mileage mint cars to make a quick buck.

My advice would be to revert you car back to standard and sell the upgrade parts, especially if you can do it yourself. Your car still has a relatively high value especially if it is in good condition and that way you would get the best of both worlds and not be out of pocket.

When i broke my last car (2002 Audi S3) it was worth more in parts, I cleared an extra 2 grand and all the bits went in the end.

Surely the first question is why you're getting rid of it?

Sorry for adding my 5p worth, but topics like this one really sadden me

I'm currently using an MY99 Sport as my daily driver whilst I'm saving up for a Turbo / WRX / STi of the same year or any facelift model year.

I'll be lucky to find one when I've got the cash in hand, as they are all being taken to bits.

All I can say is put the original parts back in, sell the upgrade parts and standard car.

Any Subaru / Hawkeye fans out there will thank you for it, as you might end up selling your Scooby to somebody like me that really wants a standard one.

The reason I asked was because I think that's what prospective buyers would want to know.
If you've still got the original mechanical bits (exhaust apart - that's a good addition to any car) then I think you'd get more money doing as bushy suggests.
However, don't forget that it would cost you a remap, so you'd lose the first £300+ of any extra cash you get.

The cosmetic bits add to the 'sellability' of the car in my view. It looks more attractive to a seller because it 'individualises' it, but again if you've go the original spoiler, wheels etc. then IMO you'd get more, simply because putting the originals back on wouldn't depreciate the resale value by more than you'd get for the bits themselves.

GLWTS, however you chose to play it.
IMO if a seller puts 'might possibly break' or similiar in an ad then people would wonder what's wrong with it.
