Default recommended engine oil for summer 290bhp

i always use the recommended oil grade fully syth 5-30w car lube oilbut i dont like useing it in the summer as ive just recently done a oil change with the 5-30. last night i went for a 15min blast on and off boost and changeing gear and so on and i got the oil pressure down to 10psi and in standing traffic its 20psi when i bought the car i was told the wrong oil which was 10-40 semi syth when i change it first time which was about 5psi better off. ive just looked on carlube and they do a 5-40 fully syth, would that be abit better. or what else do other people use that resonable priced.
my car is a wrx running 290bhp

if its a new-age WRX at that level then simply use a good quality fully synth 5w40 ALL YEAR ROUND

all this summer / winter oil is rubbish IMO for UK climate (unless you live up in the wild north )

having said that struggling to make 10-20psi would suggest something quite wrong!!

for a std(ish) car at that level then 5w40 is what your after IMO

Whoever told you 10w40 was the wrong oil is an idiot, its the standard oil for pretty much every petrol Subaru going.
Now depending if your car is a new age or classic (if its a classic then a 5w30 its totally wrong for it, its not recommended and quotes that in the handbook), a 10w40 fully synthetic or a 5w40 fully synthetic or even a 10w40 semi synthetic are more than good enough

What about 5-50 fully syth. Is that ok for it. Didnt think semi would be good enough.

Modern semi synthetics are more than good enough for this power level, fully synthetics are "optional" rather than a requirement, plus depending how many miles your car has, a fully synthetic means that the damage from wear has already been done, fully synthetic doesnt stop wear, it just gives slightly better protection on newer engines (you will find that new cars run fully synthetics because of the higher service intervals).

You should stick with a 5w40, 10w40 fully synthetic or a 10w40 semi synthetic oil, you need nothing thicker (than 40 rated) oil in your car unless its burning oil.
