Hi Guys

so ive only got one key for my scooby and got in touch with subaru. theyve quotes me £275 all in. the guy said first they have to get it sent over from japan, then get the fob swapped over to uk 1 button, then programme it.

has anyone gone a different way to getting a spare or replacement key.

ie ordering the key yourself from japan, and then taking it to a subaru dealer to programme. (if possible)

Google "replacement subaru car keys".

There's loads of companies that provide spare keys.

I haven't posted any links because I don't want to favour any particular company.
There is however one that serves Sussex (Marquis).

Found this on the bay, is it as simple as buying it and taking it to a Subaru dealer to programme??

I am in the same process, bought 1 button key off ebay £22 then had blade cut
via a photograph on ebay £8 , and i have been told by quite reliable source on
scottishscoobies who have the instructions to programe yourself via your car keypad
I have not got finished product at moment as offshore, but have no reason to dout these guys
worth a look into anyway

I did exactly as you mention, but the key wouldn't start the engine, it had to be programmed into the ECU by Subaru.

 

There is a chip in the key which needs to be paired with the transponder which you can't do yourself unfortunately, you can only add new alarm fobs yourself.

 

The issue is the transponder chip in the key, You can get a key cut and you can even program the sigma fob (if that's what you have) to the car but the transponder chips in the key need to be paired to the cars ECU via dealer equipment or similar.

When I had a vectra I had a diagnostic plug in thing called OPCOM and providing I had the vehicles security pass then I could get into the ECU and pair a new transponder chip, I don't know if such diy equipment is available for Subaru's though.

 

I believe some mappers may be able to program the key to the ECU..... I may be wrong
