Default Warranty pre-expiry check

Dear All, my 2010 STI Hatch warranty will expire in October. I have kept the car as standard apart from a Prodrive cat back exhaust system and a Cosworth panel filter. The car is rarely used during the week and even at weekends only gets an occasional blast of V power nitro and has only clocked up 17K.
My question is this, is it worth getting the car checked over before the warranty expires? Any experiences or advice I would be interested to hear

I was aiming to get the car re-mapped and dyno'd once the warrany had expired. Will a dyno show up that much?

Personally, after having my 2010 reg Legacy gearbox eat itself 3 weeks from the end of the warranty, I would extend the warranty. Or sell up, as I did.

Do you mean that you usually run it on 95 and sometimes put V Power in, or that you run it on V Power all the time and only occasionally give the car a blast?

You absolutely must run these cars on 98+ octane fuel otherwise they blow up.

I would extend the warranty high performance cars can have high performance problems that attract very large bills.

V Power only! I only occasionally get the chance to exercise the right foot!

I have just got 2 quotes for warranty
1 year £1,360 from warrantydirect
1 year £997 or £1,794 for 2 years from warrantywise

Any recommendations of providers other than richard turpin and his pals?

You know what - I'd say those extended warranty things are not worth the paper they're written on.

I know someone who tried to claim under warranty with warranty direct - they were told that if they paid for strip down and there was indeed a fault, then warranty direct would reimburse them and pay for the entire job

Can you not get the Subaru own warrenty
Normally Subaru contact you automatically before it expires

The car is over 3 years old now and I was given an extended warranty (to cover up 12 months) when I bought it from Europa in Sheffield. I have messaged the dealership for information but nothing has been forthcoming yet from them.

Once the Subaru warranty has expired, even by one day, they wont let you renew it.

In that case, skip the warranty and start your modding

Different story then
The Subaru extended warrenty was good but the aftermarket ones
Well no experience woth them

So make sure you have £5 k in the bank and as others are saying
Make it into a fire breathing tarmac shredding monster
Plenty of advice from the guys what to do bear in mind you still have the original Engince

Get your self along To the NBO 11 on Sunday to hear and see some of them

Just to be clear, I have an extended Subaru warranty at the moment (expires September 2013). Hopefully I will be able to purchase a further extension to this from Subaru as the aftermarket ones are very expensive and probably not a viable purchase (premiums probably loaded by the amount of 2.5 problems tbh).
This was why I raised the original question about getting the car checked over mechanically before the warranty expired and get any issues found fixed under warranty

For those of you following this thread my 2010 STI Hatch gave up on Saturday (big end I think) it is currently at the dealership awaiting an engineers report.
All work should be carried out under the existing warranty but depending on the report I will probably have to go down the forged route

Omg
Nine days later engine goes pop
Subaru are finished as manufactuers if the engines go pop
Surprised watchdog / trading standards haven't jumped onto this engine
Issue

Don't think anyone has.
As far as I can tell of the cases I know, the person has been told by IM that they will fix the car but the matter has to be kept private, otherwise the customer would have to foot the bill themselves.

Update: The car has now been with the dealership for 1 week, to date, a pressure test has been carried out. Each cylinder returning similar results; which suggests a big end failure.
No work will be carried out until Subaru have been to visit the car next week when a decision can be made going forward (more delay).
I fully expected a significant delay in completing the repairs to the car but without an initial diagnosis it’s difficult to plan ahead.
I will keep you informed of my progress

thats really poor service, what are their excuses?

send a letter to the manager and ask for detailed reasons why they have had the car so long and how long until you get it back. tell them that if you don't get it back within 2 weeks, you will give them a bill for a hire car

Too late now, but why didn't you ask about re. a scooby for the wedding.
Thread on here only a couple of weeks ago, and it got sorted.

I'm sure someone in your neck of the woods would have obliged.

Have a good honeymoon, come back to a load of advice about how to sort the dealership out - oh, and have a long and happy marriage.

Good luck to you both.

Thanks for all the best wishes guys,

I will update you all on my progress with the dealership but their stance is they have not been at fault for the time taken to repair the car and at no stage were they prepared to apologise for the lack of service and they think I am being unfair by referring this matter to Subaru UK a.k.a IM group.
Anyway time to get married and put this sorry tale out of my mind
