prodrive exhaust with a remap?
Hi all,
Im getting a 05 Subaru impreza sti widetrack with ppp this week and hoping to get in mapped within next 2 weeks to get 330+ bhp?
the car is standard at the mo with prodrive exhaust, should I change this before map and induction kit or will it be good enough? looking for that nice burble sound but not over the top loud either.
If I need to change will have have to be a full exhaust system or cat back?
also looking to get a decent dump valve if anyone got soundclips.
cheers

I would put on a decent after market exhaust with sport cat . Don't bother with induction kit or dump valve. Stick a K&N panel filter in the standard airbox and keep the standard re-circ valve.. And yes, make the changes before the re-map. No point doing it after as this will make your new map the wrong map.

Mate how many threads have you got going?
I found the Miltek tarnish and the quality JDM exhaust systems have better welds. As mention a decat pipe, panel filter and possibly an uprated fuel pump before the remap.
But don't forget you need to stop better. But just Upgraded brake pads/discs, ARBs and shocks should make it all the better without a mass of add ons and a remap.
Number chasing could end in tears.

You will be very lucky to get anywhere near 350.
A milltek back box and centre section will definitely make it sound a lot nicer but the gains over your ppp system are small.
If I were you it would be milltek centre and back box, k&n panel and remap aiming for 325-330 with your ppp sports cat.
See how that feels for a while and throw some money at the suspension with uprated roll bars, anti lift kit and geometry set up.
Make sure you have good discs and pads.
And one point that I think a lot of people overlook is tyres !
Buy cheap and spend a fortune on new underpants !

booked in for a remap on Wednesday with Duncan (race dynamics). don't know whether to change full system from prodrive to mongoose or miltek? don't fancy having problems with passing mot's etc though.

You've already got a sports cat, so the huge gain to be made of losing cats is mitigated somewhat. I made 315bhp with a 2005 STI and PPP, but have since dropped my cat to go total decat. I've had it mapped but not on a RR yet, I expect power gains to be minimal (based on feeling only) but it does spool up easier.
I'm going on a RR in a couple of weeks, so can update then - but I think 310-320 is a sensible estimate for you.

thanks for that info. some say I could get 330bhp as it is mapped? was unsure of this.
Has it got 2 cats?
what to I need to change on my prodrive system to make it breathe better? and what else to change to get 330bhp plus ?
many thanks

Potentially two cats, downpipe and "mid pipe".
The downpipe will be a prodrive sports cat and mid pipe is decatted on all STIs I think? If that's the case, you won't gain much without going decat and hence MOT fail.
You might get 330 with your setup, you might get 300. Every engine is different!
If you want to legitimately pass MOTs, perhaps headers and uppipe are a better place to look for better breathing.

You have a pretty good setup on the car as it comes. Sports CAT is a Prodrive upgrade an replaces the two part downpipe which has two cats in it. The back box is a straight through one and unless you really want to attract unwanted attention at roadside checks has a nice sound and is loud enough. So basically leave the exhaust alone. It's fine and you're just throwing good money at it for no gains.
Where you can seriously improve an STi is the suspension and brakes. O.E. brakes are good ,but usually older cars will be on cheaper stuff by now and it's often rubbish.
Anti lift kit stops the car pulling it's front wheels up under power and understeering, and will remove the downward force that stiffens and harshens the front under braking. Loads of threads on this if you search.
Basically, it's more fun to drive set up right and there's more to a Scooby than just thrust. Front toe transforms the car, ride height changes alter roll centres and balance.
As above, do a search.

As stated, all cars are different.
However, my old 05 STI PPP was remapped by Andy Forrest and made between 335 and 337 bhp, with similar torque.
The exhaust system you have is good, and being sport cat will pass emission tests.

thanks for the info guys, aint had a Scooby for 7 years so im not up on the knowledge on them now lol. after the feedback ive been given I think ill leave the exhaust as a few people said the prodrive system is a good setup, its being mapped non Wednesday by Duncan @ race dynamics. just had new brake pads front and back and 4 new Michelin ps3's fitted.
prob got 500 to spend on it now this month after remap but not sure where to start lol
