At request of contributors to these threads in "Suspension" I've reposted the original question. Clearly, lots of STi UK owners have this problem, but No-one has been able to post that theirs has been solved... so we appeal to the wider audience! QUOTE
"A previous thread showed that quite a number of people had had to have the (usually) NSR Shock Absorber replaced on their STi UK. I've just had mine done which has only provided a 75% cure: there's a residual rattle from higher up in the suspension, but rather intermittant. Anyone had the same continuation of the problem? Any ideas? [No, the jack and tools are elsewhere in the car for the time being!!]
Cheers
Phil Harrison"

The back seat doesn't fold down on the STi, but on one brand new one I was looking at recently, the seat back was not fastened securely to the car ie bulkhead, on the drivers side.
It was possible to pull it away from the rear parcel shelf a fair distance.
It moved so far that initially I thought the seat did fold down and was trying to find the release catch for the passenger side.
Obviously whatever attches it to the body of the car was either disengaed or not tightened up.
Just worth checking.
Cheers MTR

I don't think it is a case of loose nuts !!
Someone on the previous thread had the ns shock replaced and it only cured the problem 75%.....
Does anyone know how you go about writing to Subaru UK about this as it would seem that so many people are reporting it and none of the dealers seem to really no what to do about fixing it....

Hi all,
Dealer is going to replace topmount on 30 May. I'll advise the outcome!

Get this guys
I was going to hopefully have a new shock fitted this week, but wait for it, dealer tells me "Shaun, your shock is on back order, it seems that there are quite a lot of cars in the UK with the same problem and they have ran out, we will know an exact delivery date on Friday or Monday"
I just hope that there is no knock on effect with something else. By the way, the noise is still getting louder.

Hmmm....
I have a 2001 Bug-Eye...
On long journeys (ie. car is hot) I get a deep humming noise from what appears to be the NSR wheel area.
First thoughts were a dodgy wheel bearing... Does this sound familiar to anyone else on this thread - a deep humming noise?
Mak.

Does anyone know if this is potentially dangerous. I'm supposed to be driving to Austria and back in a few weeks time, and I think mine has started making the noise as well (although I need to take everything out of the boot and drive around to check first). Not sure I really fancy being stranded in a foreign country on holiday....

All,
I've had my STI less than a week and I have noticed something also, sounds like the jack is loose. Hopefully by the first service the problem will be common knowledge.
Gareth.
