Which exhaust size is better 2.5 or 3 inch?

Which exhaust size is better 2.5 or 3 inch?
Hi all 
I am looking at getting a new exhaust system for my 2005 blob sti and wanted to know peoples opinions on these exhaust sizes.
The car is totally standard at the moment but I plan to get a fuel pump, decat and panel filter and map it correctly with future plans to change the turbo and modify it more but I am not sure what size exhaust to get... So all advice welcome and thank you!

3" downpipe and a 2.5" there after .... suits my 440/440 well and sounds the nuts without being track unfriendly.
As said, too big a system for your needs has disadvanteages.
