Insurance
Thought it'd be interesting to see what everyone pays for their insurance and where from, as from reading another thread the costs vary significantly depending on age/vehicle and how they get the insurance ie via confused/go compare/direct/broker. I'll start it off....

When i joined the army years ago my insurance premium rose significantly. When i asked why i was told they assume squaddies when on leave all go out drinking and crash their cars so were a greater risk. Funny thing was i didn't even drink back then and had never seen any evidence of soldiers being more likely to drink and drive than anyone else. Even more annoying was my car was kept at my parents house and not at the barracks, so i only got to drive it occasionally.

I can understand why your post code effects the price but i have never really understood why occupation does. i've never really understood why the insurance company needs to even know the occupation?

Tarred with the same brush I'm afraid.
Did you see the TopGear episode where they covered this? They found that the most expensive job you can have insurance wise (according to JC) is "Motoring Journalist"

Its *apparently* down to the type of people that perform specific roles.

So i wonder he decides what "type" of people do what "type" of job and whether they have any real evidence these people are a higher risk.
I bet insurance underwriter is the lowest risk lol.

Due to start very soon from an Admiral policy of £990 for last 12 months.

I started a new policy at 24 which was very steep but 25 with 1yr dropped the quote significantly. I largely agree that postcodes have the biggest impact but sometimes the quote makes no sense at all!

Well they don't help themselves by giving it the the smoking Scandinavian flick on every test drive

Statistics I'm afraid... That's all that ever decides anything! Motoring offences/thefts/accidents affect the postcodes, as well as the cars, the age ranges etc. It's a pretty crap formula IMHO, it's all about being treated the same as everyone else, which doesn't actually work!
I bet you're not far from wrong there bud.

Postcode must have a massive factor considering some of the quote you guys with more ncb and experience are getting.
That being said, I tried quotes with other recommended insurers on here which quoted me double. So maybe its not all postcode and they just want you to think that to continue fleecing you....?
Always make sure you shop around is what I say as I saved myself a bundle.
