Grease packing rear sti shocks? How long before knocking?
My rear shocks for my blob eye are knocking and my specialist recommend grease packing which should last for about 2 years, giving me time to save for KGB shocks and alignment costs.
Does anyone know how longs there's has lasted before knocking has come back? I only do about 6000 miles a year.
Regards.

there's a thread on how to do them, its not too bad a job 30 mins for both sides, you could still grease with wheel on but would be easier with it off, a good mod if you do alot of miles, i just re-packed mines with bearing grease been fine ever since

It's ok for sometime depending on the shock condition and what springs you're using. If the car is lowered and the shock is on it's way , i'd say don't bother get new ones. As the only proper way to do this is by taking it off. If you doing it yourself then it will only cost you the greese and aligment . If not , get KYB's ultra sr's or excel g's depending what you aiming from the car....
Ive done it on all of my classics and current bug and if driven properly it will do this to you sooner or later....

If you fit a nipple, in theory you'll never have to repack.
The benefit of the nipple is not to allow convenient refills, but it allows you to pack the chamber with grease under some pressure. If the strut is dismantled, it's physically impossible to fill the chamber with grease as the strut body will just push it out as you reconstruct.
The nipple allows the chamber to be filled when the strut is all built up, and if done properly you'll never need to redo it... which kinda makes the nipple redundant, but it was needed to achieve that in the first place if that makes sense!
