If you want a car for fun driving then clio, if you want a car for fun driving with the added bonus of using it as a modifying project and the feel of a boost of power as you accelerate out of the B road bends then Subaru. Guess what I would choose? Lol

What do you want from the car, what do you want it to do performance wise?

I've owned 8 Impreza STi's and one Clio 182 Sport to date. I would buy another Impreza tomorrow but never a Clio 182 again for numerous reasons.

Prolly biased but I'd go for the Impreza. As it's a weekend thing, it wouldn't feel as special if it was a Clio. Not to me anyway. Too much like a daily. And I personally wouldn't get as much satisfaction out of cleaning it, still a Clio at the end of the day!

No one can really decide but you though mate . Just to add to the mix, Scooby will sound better and more tuneable .

Personally I'd go 182 cup. Not as fast in a straight line, obviously, but the ones I've seen on track days etc have been real weapons even as standard.

Spend the change on petrol, sticky tyres and some track days

Clio is a great car BUT it's definitely NOT pride and joy material.

THE END.

I had a Clio 200 Cup a little while back and used it as a daily. Was a great drivers car but I couldn't deal with this one time I was rinsed by a Mondeo Diesel estate on the M6 and I sold it soon after.

Get the Scooby, it is more of a pride and joy machine and something you feel more special in.

Surely asking an impreza forum you knew what answers you'd get!?!?

i have a 172 cup, bang for buck you cant beat em, for the money they cost to buy and run i cant think of an alternative, mines got bilstein coilovers on and the geometry has been set up, handles superbly, my daily drive on b roads leaves most things scratching there heads wondering why the 172bhp clio has just disappeared into the distance.

As you can tell i love my cup! cant wait to track it, these clio's do very well on track, oh and mines been as reliable as they come, as where my other clio's, ( mk1 1.8 16v & williams ) but when i can afford to run a nice modded blobeye i'll be buying one, if i could afford to keep the clio as a track toy and still get a scooby i would.

As a nice weekend toy i'd get a nice impreza, but don't rule out the clio for a cheap fun car, like i said for the money they are hard to beat i'd be getting a 172 cup and not a 182 cup if you go for a clio ( more special )

At least you made the right decision, just need to be a bit quicker next time to make sure you get it.

Ive always had a weekend fun car and it needs to do everything, be fast enough, handle well enough and have that special feeling when you drive it, bit like a motorbike for the road I reckon, and after god knows how many tuned clio 16v's s4's corrado vr6's etc i am am back in a classic impreza, they need sorting on the handling side but when you have a good one, well it's the only car I've ever just gone out for a Sunday drive in, but can't stop thinking of a 5.0 tvr Griffith though?!!

I currently own a Clio 182 and a UK Turbo Impreza. The Clio has the edge in the 'fun' factor as it feels like you are throwing a go kart around. However the Impreza corners quicker and pulls harder in every gear. I assume you won't be doing that many miles in the car therefore I'd go with the Impreza.

In saying that the 182 is a great car and I'll definitely own another. Very capable cars.

8K will get you a souped up type r or P1 with rebuilt engine , 6 speeder maybe sorted suspension etc, etc... If it aint your daily, classic would be as fun as a clio but with way more capabilities ... 400 bhp classic feels like rocketship , cant beat that feeling...

The Clio is a fun hatch with good handling and a nippy engine........but is just a FWD French hatchback at the end of the day. Not something I'd consider special enough to warrant being a weekend toy in my opinion....fun daily at best. Comparing it with an STI is just silly
