Check coolant level. If it's low it may have "gulped" air and now be airlocked.
Check by removing the cap of the metal header tank on top of the engine, WHEN COOL, NOT the one on the n/s wing.
Feel the bottom rad hose when it's up to temperature, if it's cold it's likely to just be an airlock which you can usually clear by removing the cap and 'burping' it from the bottom hose.
damage could be done already , was the needle in the red and how long for. it could have been hgs anyway but if it isnt i would expect hgs to go in a couple of weeks time.
