Default Any way to tell if a classic is a WRX or an STI?

Hi there,

I'm on the hunt for a WRX classic and stumbled across a car for sale that fits the bill almost perfectly. Only thing is the car is advertised as an STI.

However, it doesn't have the red manifold, or the STI high level spoiler. The add is also titled "version 4 black subaru wrx sti prodrive (import)" and I was under the impression that all prodrive models were UK cars?

Is thee anyway to tell whether it's a WRX or an STI for definite?

The reg is: R138YYC

Unfortunately I'm after a WRX rather than an STI for insurance reasons, so if it turns out to be an STI it's a no go

I have sent the seller a message to ask what the V5 says. The advert doesn't come across like the seller is trying to make out that the car is something it's not on purpose, maybe he is just confused?

Anyway, thanks in advance for your help.

Use this as a guide.

http://wrxtypera.webs.com/identifymodels.htm

Make note of the 'Model Code'. That will tell you what it is.

Pay no attention to the V5. According to my V5 mine is an Impreza LX

Find out what the model code is.

Not the VIN number, though that may help, you want the 'Model Code'.

Do you have a link to the advert?

Its not the vin number you need. There is a code called 'applied model code' on the vin plate. Its 7 digits long and will start gc8. Get that code and check it against this -

http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/wrx.html

Or post up a link to the car, im sure I could tell what it is.

Looks like an sti to me.

Thats the original spoiler and no doubt the crinkle red paint has flaked off the manifold. If you look closely you can just see bits of red on it.

Not sure where he got the prodrive bit from though....lol. ....

As said looks like an Sti, you can see some of the red paint on the edges of the manifold, it comes off over time.

Spoiler is right for that car, v5+ had the big spoiler.

They are quite rare in black tbh, compared to white or blue.
