I did a HPI check came back as cat d in December 2010. I informed the seller. He promptly rang me back and said that he was unaware of this. He had took the car in P/X of someone he knows. He was aware of some damage being to the passenger door back in that year. It was keyed by a neighbour. He said that he had been over the whole car with a paint depth gun. Everything is originally. He was very apologetic to me and also very angry at the guy that who he got it off. I said as a good will gesture he would let me have it for 1500. What do you guys think

But yet he has a hpi report?? If he had a hpi report then he would know IMO.
Cat d is only panel damage anyway.

 

Bug wagons always held price better than the saloons, if it's only had a bit of panel damage and well repaired then £1500 is a good price IMHO

It wouldn't put me off if what he says is true, a lot of car for £1500 IMO

just make sure you give it a good checking over.

 

not bothered that it's a cat-d as others have said, more concerned about trustworthiness of seller

just take someone with subaru knowledge with you to have a good look at it / test drive, if you really want a red bug wagon.

 

I really want a scoobie. I have limited budget (£2000). Can't seem to find one that is half decent. People are asking so much money for classics now.

 

cat d might put me off if i was buying a 20k car, simply as it would affect future resale value. On a car worth £1500 it would never be a concern so long as the car proved to be sound when you go to look at it. cat d is usually very light damage, and on a car of this value a small dent in a rear quarter panel for instance would be enough to write it off

it looks to be a nice example on first appearance, and worth the money in my opinion

 

as long as decent repair then cat d on a car that price isn't problem to me.

Cat d is nothing really and the car is cheap enough for £1500 so I'd have a look at it if your interested

 

Don't get me wrong, a cat d car wouldn't put me off but it still effects the value of a car dramatically. The seller says its far from mint and will require some paint to tidy it up. No mention of any history and the seller is obviously not being completely honest. He states a hpi report is present and vosa printouts but was unaware its a write off......ummmmmm, yea right.

Wagons are not as desirable as saloons so always make less money, its completely standard and not in a desirable colour. Its probably the least desirable of all impreza turbos infact.
Maybe my car dealer side is on one today but I wouldn't want to give anymore than a grand for it.

 

disagree matty, it's a nice colour and wagons are desirable and difficult to source, saloons are ten a penny, it took me quite a while to find a decent black Blob wagon with good history, in fact i'd have taken any colour towards the end of my search, and in fact wagons cost more when new from the place I bought my new blob saloon a wagon was £500 more.

 

Its £1500 quid!!! Its worth a shot, Its not like spending £10-15k. I would defo have that if I was looking for a scoob in that price range!!

I bought a 54 plate Fiesta TDCi for £1000 6 months ago which is a CAT D as a run about and to be honest its great to drive and havent spent anything on it yet!!! The same car would cost £2-3k, I know its a bit harder to sell as it puts most people off being a CAT D, but Im not really bothered and im going to drive it into the ground and get my £1000 quids worth!!!

 

Ignore matty hes into buying and selling classics for £7-8k

For 1500 squid it's worth a punt IMO and makes sure its been well looked after and try find out where the damage was and see if it's a good repair if any and the usual second hand car checks and then barter him down a touch more if poss.

 

Cheapest Classic WRX they made was the RA as it had so many bits missing........logic says they they should be worth less now

Going to have a look tomorrow afternoon. I can always walk away if not happy. I like the fact that its low mileage and completely standard. If all goes well I best start looking for parts.

This guy is associated with Graham Walkers in some way I'm sure of it.

He had a blue wagon a while ago that I was interested in, 1 doctor owner and low mileage but there was a reason I never went to look at it after I spoke to him. Can't remember for the life of me what it was but it put me off in a big way and wasn't mentioned in the ad.

Where you gonna get a car with turbo and 4 wheel drive for that money, i say go look, drive it and make your decision.:-)
Most cars for that money are gonna need something doing,so probably worth factoring 5-600 for any mishaps. :-)

 

£1500!!! You'll spend more on fuel and insurance. If it's as good as it looks go and buy it.

 

My car depreciates at around £1500 a year. If it serves you well for longer than that I wouldnt worry about it. The seller has edited the ebay page. Most unscrupulous sellers dont when damage info is brought to their attention. Therefore I wouldnt have any issue buying from him but not without a counter offer of £1350 first and go from there.

 

If you get that for £1350 then you are ending up with a quick car that owes you nothing.

It is a small risk to take in the grand scheme of things when you consider that you'll probably pay more in fuel this year than you spent on the car.

 

Looks very tidy, check that your insurance company will cover it though !

Some companies will not offer insurance (or only limited cover) on cars that have previously been recorded as a total loss ?

Mica Red is a fabulous colour when polished up - don't know why anybody would choose any other.

£1500 or under has to be a good buy if it's straight with no rust. Check the VIN carefully though against the V5 . . . just in case!

Factor in £500 for what it could cost you straight off, and you've still under budget.
