Default whats your boost

Ive been to the rollers today to get a power run after the latest mod of a new turbo - only got 435 and 360lbft.

my mods are

Custom Turbo from latereal
gt2 spec headers
Harvey up pipe
850cc injectors
harvey FMIC
3" down pipe
3" exhaust

i was only boosting at 1.5 bar peak and after talking to Mark at lateral it seams im good for alot more boost from the turbo, so my question to the boys over 450 bhp -

what are you boosting at ?

You may be able to produce more power but can the engine take it? Is it not better to be tuned safe and reliable. Rather than maxing everything and potentially destroying it.

I'd never 100% go as gospel with a rr anyway. If I'd drives right and is doing what it should I wouldn't chase figures personally

Mines a similar spec on standard internals MD321t and a large Hyperflow top mount and ran 431 / 361 at Prosport without the Harvey up pipe and on the GT spec up pipe. I was peak boosting around 1.5 Bar. I've just had Lateral billet my 321t and re-fitted it with a Harvey up pipe this weekend, supplied by Alyn at ASP, Andrew Carr is mapping it next week and I'm aiming for 440-450HP and 380Lbs torque, anything more will be a bonus, I'll keep you posted on Lads. I've an AVCR fitted to keep an eye on boost and trim it accordingly, I wouldn't want to run it at that power on standard internals without some form of monitoring or controlling boost.

pretty much the same then - my turbo is a M321t with a billet V wheel and t exhaust wheel. Mark at lateral has said good for 470 - 480 on pump fuel but need to increase boost !

are you on a 2.5 ? im on a 2L

Yep mines a 2.0 I have just bought a built 2.3 so will be dropping that in next year with a GT30 billet or GT35. I'd like to see 450hp on the standard internals with the billet T at 1.7 bar max but see where we go.

Hi there

We are run before on MDX321T 1.7bar and we are made 452bhp on V-power and 490bhp on V-power and 20% methanol

Sometimes more boost(on some turbo)doesn't mean you will be making more power,in some cases you will make less power, because more boost only create more heat not power

There is more to tuning than boost.

Some turbos, engine and anxillaries will suit certain mapping strategies. Each car is different as well.... none are the same. The mapping can make a big difference as well.... way too many variables imo.

Peak boost will lean towards your torque figure, whilst boost at peak power will support peak BHP figures. These can be totally different boost levels though. You'd need to know what the car makes at peak boost and also peak power.

I have a LM450 Billet (similar turbo to yours) on my standard 2ltr and make 442bhp/440ftlb on VPower @ just under 1.8bar peak boost and 1.7bar peak power.

On Methanol I make 480bhp/465ftlb @ 1.75bar peak boost and 1.6bar peak power.

My torque levels are quite substantial though and always have been on my set-up.

However.... the boost levels don't mean a fat lot when you don't know how much ignition people run either.

So..... don't concentrate on boost alone - discuss this with your mapper for his opinion. AFR's can make a difference on power outputs as well.

I could have had my map pushed further for the sake of a dyno plot, but I'm not interested in that....... it's a standard engine and needs the best chance of staying in one piece, being safe whilst being very quick. Not always a given and you'll also be advised that a dyno graph will only give an indication of how quick a car could be. It's not the be all and end all.

Power

Boost
