Hit by a truck
Last night when snoozing at my girl friends house I heard an alarm go off so I looked out the window and saw a white lorry with a logo and company name. The alarm had stopped so I didn't think anymore of it until I went out and realised that the quarter panel had a 3 inch deep and 8 inch wide dent in its entire length with paint on it the same colour as the lorry. The lorry had left. Rear door, mirror, bumper and boot were also damaged. It will go to a bodyshop on Tuesday to be assessed but since it is a MY 2001 WRX I feel it may be written off.
I reported it as a hit and run and told my insurance. I have a few questions:
They say I might loose my excess and no claims if they can't trace the lorry. This seems unfair what can I do?
How do I get the best price for my car?
Can I buy a different car with the money i get. It might be an opportunity to upgarde to an STI.
Can I buy back my car or take spares off it before it goes? It is well set up with sports cat, remap, rebuilt brakes, new timing belt, new bushes, anti roll bars and ant lift kit.
I was pretty annoyed because it was a car I'd put a fair bit of work into getting set up well and I now felt I knew it but **** happens.
Cheers folks.

Never accept the first offer - standard.
If all the modifications were declared you should get above market price if it's a write off.
You can buy the car back to remove parts, or you can buy back the parts if you wish to swap them to standard.
Or you can arrange with the insurance company how it will work depending on the payout.

inbox full, but the upshot is
A delivery driver was reversing in our work car park and went into the side of a merc.
At the time we said an employee saw the crash & then watched the driver get out and unhook the bush he went through to get to the merc.
Their insurance co argued that the employee was not a suitable witness, and that the driver did not do the damage.
Our co are refusing to go any further.
