Don't know if this is old news but if it is

Anyway, I remember there being some debate over oil filters when Subaru went from the black ones to the blue ones. Went to order one and found that import car parts are selling the black ones via their ebay shop.

I use the Mazda RX8 oil filter, buy them at my local Mazda dealer. They are the same make as the oe subaru ones (Roki or something?) and have the same bypass pressure (unlike almost every alternative to the oe subaru filter) and they are slightly larger capacity.

These ones have a hex shaped `nut like` bottom to them, so if it was on too tight you can always use a spanner to loosen it. Good idea imo

They are supposed to offer a higher filtration level for motor sport applications.

But I personally wouldn't bother, pretty much snake oil medicine as I see it.

I seem the k&n ones advertised somewhere at £3.50 delivered iirc, bargain at that price IMO but I run the black one as that's what was advised when I asked about it

And how much was that, from a Mazda dealer?
I bought a filter for the wifes Mazda 3 MPS from the local Mazda dealer at over £14! Stupid price for a bog ordinary filter that didn't even come in a box FFS! Only got it to preserve the warranty, if needed.
A perfectly good Blueprint, UFI, Mahle ect should be £6-£7

yep im in the trade and can get blue print, ufi etc etc for pennies. Yet i still buy a mazda one for my own car Because of the crack pressure in the valve. You dont need to fit a mazda filter to keep warranty. Although it probably makes it easier in the event if a claim

lots of duff info about the "blue" filters IMO..............have used and supplied what must now be thousands since they came out without even one issue!

from investigations it would appear the paper type membrane is used simply to comply with end of life disposal/recycling and as its not designed to float "free" then it obviously will fall apart as soon as its removed from its housing

cant believe that so much weight is given to some daft kid in a car that looks like he would struggle to serve fries at McD'ss..........

I run genuine black filters as advised buy my engine builder. For the little extra cost if really makes no odds and gives peace of mind.

I've run blueprint filters for years without an issue - can see any reason to spend more than a fiver when it works perfectly well
