Default help needed

hey all had my car in for nct like a mot but stricter lol today it failed on lambda reading 1.12 and needs to be between 0.96 and 1.03 went to local motor factors and was given this stuff called dipetane add half bottle into fuel tank run it high revs in low gears till empty and put other half bottle in next time i fill up and this should bring my lambda reaings right down if it doesnt he reckons it will be my cat not a sensor ?

oh my car is 2001 bug wrx in standard form cheers

Give the car a real good warm up and get them to take the readings with it still warm. If this still fails then chances are your a) cat is knackered or b) you have a decat fitted and you dont know it?

would it not be the lambda sensor mate ? and defo not a decat cheers

Have you noticed if fuel usage has increased ? Usually a good sign lambdas knackered if test equipments not to hand
