Default Hawk WRX vs Hatch WRX

Are there any noticeable advantages of going for the hatch WRX over the Hawk eye? apart from the obvious shape difference all I can see is that the Hatch is slower to 60 at 6.6 seconds vs 5.9 Hawk.

I'm upgrading my Blob eye in a couple of months and will likely go for one of the two,

Cheers

They seem to be similarly priced

The hawk is better looking and also drives better than the wrx hatch, also I would say its more tuneable if you are looking to mod it. I drove the standard wrx hatch when they first came out and although I thought it drove well and quite smooth, it felt very soft. Just my opinion.

Alright matey. I'm looking at a WRX too at the moment as a kind of daily driver I can put a few miles on without worrying too much.

I can't say I'm well familiar with the models year on year (if anyone here can provide a brief summary I would be grateful) but having driven a Hawkeye WRX (I ran a GB270 for a fortnight back in 2008 - nearly bought it and had a 2.0 WRX blob as a courtesy car the other day) and the hatch I have to say that they are very different cars.

The Hawk definitely felt faster but I suspect that was due to the PPP kit. Standard Stock vs Stock I wouldn't have thought there was much in it and I would have put 6.5s 0-62mph as a much more realistic real world figure for both.

The hatch is the more refined car but lacks the raw and agile feel of the Hawk, which would be my car of choice for a back road blast. However I know what I'd rather drive on a long journey!

Just a thought to close though. If you are interested in 0-60 times have you considered an STi?

I do 60 miles a day so I'm also looking for a daily driver I can blast now and then I may modify in the future if I move closer to work / commute less

A tough call. The Hawk may feel faster due to the higher level of refinement in the Hatch. However if refinement is what you are after then an Impreza isnt the car of choice. The Hawk looks far more performance orientated with its flared arches, side skirts, rear spoiler and red 4 pot callipers.

I would like to know whether the 2.5 engines are the same. Ive heard horror stories of modded hatches going pop fairly easily whereas Ive not heard the same about Hawks. For me this would be the most important thing.

had the same choice myself, gone for the hawk, although not a standard engine build going in mine

the interior is nicer on the hatch, exterior nicer on the hawk, larger choice of mods available for the hawk where as the hatch is a bit limited.

I know its a year and a half older but is this not worth a £1.5k saving?

For those that know nothing about engines, is this the difference between the hatch going pop and the Hawk not?

no difference to the internals (the main thing that fails)

This car has had a "head gasket upgrade".

What is the point in that? Not aware of more than one HG failure on a WRX...

The Hatch WRX seems to be quite an unloved car. That would be why there is little between the prices!

I chose the Hawkeye WRX over the hatch as a daily drive and would 100% recommend the same - much better looking, I just don't get the whole "Impreza Hatch" look, just looks like another eurobox IMHO

Yeah I much prefer the Hawk look, just wondered if there was anything extra special about the slightly newer Hatch.... Hawk it is!

I had the same dilema last May but finally changed my MY05 wrx300 blob for a MY10 WRXS hatch and never looked back. WRXS has PPP as standard and has spoilers /splitter off the sti plus 18" GT1 alloys. ok it has not got the DCCD but not sure if that matters too much. PPP also takes the power very close to the sti as well. Bad bits... RF tax at £460 is a killer and could really do with a sixth cog.

Similar to mine....I paid £5.5k in December - she's a Sept 2005 Hawkeye WRX with 42k on the clock. With the saving I've bought a new set of rims (waiting for summer to buy the rubbers), front splitter, Cosworth filter, STi rear spoiler, WRX flaps and Blobeye rear lights (don't like the Lexus/Halfords look of the standard rear lights). She runs lovely and is "fairly" economical on daily use. Plenty quick for me and beautiful low down torque in standard format without all the extra worries of HG failure etc. that a lot of the STi's and modified engines suffer from
