Default Silly question but.......

Why is a backbox called a rear silencer ?
Surely silencer means to " quieten" so I don't get the
Whole " I wanna make my scoob louder " by getting a silencer?
Just wondering where the term came from

Yep your right, silly question.

Take your back box off and see what happens...

The rear box quietens the noise dramatically, some more than others though. So, if you want to increase the noise put a rear box on that quietens the noise less effectly.

Why do you think its a box at all, if it did nothing you would just have a pipe instead of a large box.
