Default Offered a wrx, should i go for it

Hi all im new here and was just wanting advice from someone about a next car, i drive a 01 golf gti 1.8t, has 130k miles on it, ive done a few things to it then put it up for sale just to see what i get offered. Ive been offered a 93 WRX import, with about 107k on it. Its been modified but looks like someones spent a lot on it and not just cheap mods. What should i look out for on these? Ive always wanted one at some point and being offered this i think i might go for it, just want to know what i should be checking, what are the big no's to buying one and what are the common problems, also what would a wrx with that miles be worth?

While it could still be a rewarding motor, it is now 20 years old.
The interior may not be to your liking though the performance could well negate these facts altogether.
My advice? check for service history and get a good drive in it.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah i realise its getting on a bit, still like the classics though, as for interiors im not hugely fussy as long as everythings there and intact, the guys done a lot of work to it, but i will check all the history make sure its got most of it. Yeah would be planning taking it a test drive to see how it compares, but going from 150bhp to whats apparently over 320 dont want to get excited and say yeah with out checking common faults

Make sure insurance on an import is palatable to you too.

This is a very good point. I can't find any holes to pick in my 93 import, bar the interior. It was pretty standard and basic. It only has racing seats and rollcage in now, but I certainly wouldn't put it at the top of the list for best interior!

Not got any rust patches on mine as it gets undersealed and well looked after. I would make sure that he has done mods that will ensure the engine can cope with the bhp.

Its aparently about 330bhp, it has autobahn fmic, hks filter, forge actuator, forge dv, turbo timer, japspeed headers and down pipe, s/s exhaust, boost hasnt been touched at 11psi, and stage 2 clutch should them mods cos any problems? Also what sort of power can the engines take if everything is looked after? is 330 quite safe?

What litre engine is it? To be running at 330psi with 11psi, it cant be 2.0ltr.

Not sure about what BHP mine is but its a 2.0ltr boosting to 16psi. Don't quote me on it but I think at standard, they are around 260?
