Default Cambelt Con i think

Hi Guys

New here but not to the scene had one of the original imports back in the day (when i was young). Anyway got myself a more modest wagon which is totally standard apart from end box.

SO anyway wanted to change the cambelt as just got the car, hasn't had it done before so 55k i think is about right. Anyway rang a garage and the quote was 1300 quid... nearly fainted.

just wanted to ask if that's the average or a local garage trying it on.

cheer guys and love the site.

Even if they have to replace the tensioners it will be no where near that price, they must be charging 250 quid an hour to give you that quote
Find a decent speciallist in your area, will be much cheaper

there can be some extras to account for, namley tensioner, but should be anywhere near 400, let although 1300

have they quoted you for a full smash service? if you totaly it all up thats not far off 1300ish at dealer rates

Default Cambelt

Yeah that's what i thought, apparently its because i need the water pump changes as recommended. What he did say was that its Subaru parts but even so..

No not a Subaru or performance garage, just a local one.

If anyone lives nr Littlehampton and can recommend a dealer/garage etc please let me know.

thanks guys

Not only is the quote ridiculous, I would not use a garage that doesn't work on Subarus on a regular basis. Stick to a garage that is recommended by the users of this forum even if it means traveling a little further.

Some garages recommend a upgraded oil pump at the same time. Usually after 80k miles covered. Cost around 100 quid

doesn't require a water pump or an oil pump service wise.........its not German LOL

worst case normally is potentially the tensioner and idlers and occassionally the front crank oil seal..........

Perhaps he usually bends all the valves when he does it so he's quoted on that just to be on the safe side.
