Default Type R Questions / Forum

Afternoon folk,

Im looking at getting an Impreza Type R and have narrowed it down to either a V3, V4 or V5. Id prefer a V5. In white (If anyone has one they want rid of....)

Ive been researching and reading up, and so far Im gathering that the biggest differences mechanically come with the V6, but the other main differences Im noticing are:

V3 - pre facelift dash & bumpers, small spoiler
V4 - facelift fash, pre facelift bumpers
V5 - facelift dash, facelift bumpers

Is that right?

Also, is there a specific forum for Type Rs? There was one I used to browse before Christmas that I cant find anymore - Has it been merged with the Type RA forum?

Cheers!

Jim

The biggest mechanical differences came with the V5, phase 2 engine etc. V6 was minor updates.

There is a WRX Type R (maybe called the V limited as well) and think if you search on here you may find a few posts about it.

Did the V4 not have most of the revisions as well?

Don't be put off the V4 look as the facelift bumpers are cheap as chips and one of the most common mods people do. Changing a V3 dash and interior to a V4,5,6 not so easy.

I bought a V3 Type R last year so bullied myself into action on the RA site and started scanning the JDM brochures and uploading them.
The 97 Type R brochure is here: http://www.type-ra.com/subaru-forum/...-brochure.html

Cheers guys! Ill get signed up. I was a little hesitant to sign up on the forum as I kept looking for Type R forums and thinking "Nope, thats the Type RA one again".

I'm not really that bothered about the dash, its just the V5 is slightly nicer. So buying a V3/V4 and putting the later bumper, crystal lights and taller spoiler would be a viable option then?

I think face lifting has had its days with these cars....

If its a version 3 then keep it as a version 3 I say....

True, but I'm not 100% keen on the V3/V4 splitter and I'd rather have a good condition V3 than a ropey V5.

BUT - Theres a lot to be said about leaving a car (relatively) standard.
