Hi guys,I purchased some Rally Armor mudflaps for my car over the holidays from the USA. Seller sent them via USPS trackable. The status has been the same since 11.14am on /january 1st it just says customs clearance..no further updates. Is such a long clearance time the norm?

This is the message from Parcel force, its been here over a week now, surely they should stop playing with each other and pull their fingers out their ***
Import parcels into the UK: We have been able to attempt delivery of all parcels imported from overseas that were due for delivery by Christmas. There have been a significant number arrive over the last weekend and we expect further significant arrivals into the UK over the coming days. We are working with Customs over the Christmas and New Year period to get these parcels ready for delivery as quickly as possible. They will be processed through Customs in arrival date order and any import customs charges that need to be paid will be advised by letter in the normal way. We will have them available for delivery as soon as any appropriate import customs charges have been paid.

I been stung by customs for a few thing over the years, If it has the value of the item for ins purposes they hold all goods regardless if new or 2nd hand and apply the appropriate fee, Usually around 4% duty & 20% VAT, If there is no value to the parcel or marked sample, gift etc it comes straight through usually via USPS with no fee

It will be in customs for about a week, maybe longer at this time of year and yes they will do you for duty and VAT on the declared goods value.
It''s why if I order from abroad I never bother paying for expedited shipping as the lazy fcukwits in customs will just sit on it for a week anyway.
What really boils my p1ss is when UPS or FedEx or whoever charge you £10 or £15 customs administration fee. WTF???
If it is being shipped from one country to another then it has to go through customs so add the charges to the delivery cost and stop charging £10 for something that actually costs 10p. Thieving *******!

Trouble is the only place I could get this aftershave from was the states, they stopped making the splash and it was one of my dads favourite aftershaves, but i was lucky enough to stumble across this whilst browsing the web, but it was in a damaged box and only had 1 left.
He's been trying to find it for ages and the box is of no concern to him so I snapped it up for him as an extra Christmas present, but at this rate it will be good for next year

you been had ...they saw you comming , I'd ordered alot of stuff from the states and the most I hadto pay was £20....I had a valentine 1 radar detector sent over a few years back and the seller "guaranteed" that i will not paid custom charges on it .......guess what fedx sent me a bill anyway , so I rang them to complain and they then drop the charges !!, if you get a bill make a fuss as most of them always try it on !

Unfortunately guys, i work for a freight forwarder but more for containers and pallet freight. depending on how the shippers describes the goods and value against the product with their paperwork, customs clearance in the uk is worked out by duty and vat. Different materials or products attract different amounts of duty. This could range from 0% duty to silly amounts like 30% plus. Then you need to add vat on top.
Any clearing agent will always charge a admin fee for labour unfortunately.
Basically it works like this
Customs Value for duty is worked out which is the value of the goods plus you add your transport cost to the uk.
Once you have the total, depending on the commodity code, you times this percentage by the vfc.
Add this duty amount to you vfc and then times by 20% which is your vat amount.
Hope this helps guys.
