Default type r sti engine knock

hello im new to scoobynet
ive got a scooby typpe r sti v4 1998, and the other night on way home i herd a knockin sound after 3k rpm,,:[
i take it its the rod bearing?? its sound on idle but enything over 3k ish rpm and its knockin,,i dont no what to do
1 buy a second hand engine off ebay for around 1200 with nly 49 km n it
2 rebuild this engine?
if so who would you say thats good and quite cheap'ish???
and cost???
3 buy a built block off 1 of you lol

only mods i have is
hard pipes
hks filter
hks big itercooler
blitz r turbo back
bov
uprted fuel pump
and vf24 turbo,but thats standrd ye?
eny help would be grate

I would get it to a garage and find out exactly what the problem is. Get it trailored rather than drive it, do you have breakdown cover as they may recover you to a garage of your choice? Only then can you decide on a way forward.

You could rebuild your engine with a forged setup for not much more than £1200, that way you wont have to risk buying another half dead engine, or you could fit a v7-8 sti engine.

I have a brand new forged short engine in the forsale section, never ran was going in mine but selling up.

That sounds cheap! Is that including a new crank?

Crank, rods, pistons, bearings, gaskets, modine, sump and oils etc will be more than £1200 on its own without labour

hi mate,,ye interested,,thats what i want a forged block that will be reliable and can take stick,as i live baisicly on anglesey race circit, 1 field away lol ;,,

be cheaper buying a forge new build,,than going gt this 1 built ye

Cost me £3300 for Crank, Rods, Bearings, Gaskets and labour. You will not get it sorted for £1200...

lol i no mate,,he said 1200 just parts alone ;]

i been looking and ur right its 3k ish for parts and sum1 to build it ;]

save the hasle of waiting ,and it be cheaper ,,i been offerd a few all ready,,
but i wont have cash for 3weeks

You wont need a sump just a clean will suffice and you could get away with giving the existing modine a PROPER clean instead of replacing it. Agreed when i said £1200 that was parts alone, i know it can be done as ive just done it myself, import car parts for the win
