Are scoobys over rated?
Probably not the best place to be asking this question, but as some will know i have recently bought a 1999 V5 type R V-ltd and coming from the ford scene so most of my mates drive fords.... anyway last night went out with a few mates 2X mk2 Focus RS's and 1X mk6 fiesta ST...
anyway had a bit of a play and up to about 60 the scoob did keep with the 2 RS's and pulled away from the fiesta but after that the RS's let if for dead! (one running mountune mp350 and the other running a CP400 kit) then next thing i know, in the twistys the fiesta is on my **** like a pimple!!!!
Now i know its a 14 year old car, but surley a 150bhp fiesta shouldnt be able to keep up lol
So i think more power is needed ASAP!!!!!!

Why are you surprised?
Both of the RS Foci were tuned up, I presume yours is not? So why did you expect your lower powered car to keep up. Remember you have extra transmission losses which slow impreza's noticeably after 60mph.
Around the back lanes a well set up hot hatch can keep up with a good driver.
I think you need to get to know your car more and get it on track with some tuition.
A point to note, ask for a standing start sprint and you will see where the imprez can excel!

On a serious note, sounds like your car needs checking over.
Get some decent brakes, tyres, anti-lift kit, drop links and rear roll bar, then geo set up.
Oh and learn to drive it, if the other cars are well set up and yours isn't no supprise really, as well as the fact the other two are running much more power and longer gears, your car should be good for 158 and gone before the others get to use the longer gearing, also dial the dccd up a couple of notches if your not comfortable with the rear wheel drive characteristics of your car.
You need to learn to drive it to get the best from it.
What turbo you running and who mapped it, stick a vf34 on it and wave good bye.

Sorry but all this 'the Scoob should destroy it' is nonsense. A 150bhp 2WD Fiesta will not have that much of a diferent real world performance to a standard WRX once transmission losses are taken into account, but then you said it was in the twisties it managed to keep up therefore I think there are two other issues here.
1) You need to worry about handling before power - make it handle better and then stop better before making it go faster
2) Drivers - a driver that knows the Fiesta and can drive a bit will more than be a match for you if you are not familair with the Impreza's characteristics. You have to drive it differently in corners to a FWD - learn the car and try again

turbo is defo working lol cars running find and has been checked over... boosts to around 16-17psi on the boost gauge... it has a few handling upgrades i.e. P1 suspension, carbon Sti strut brace front and rear anti-roll bars, anti lift kit etc etc, may need 4 wheel allignment but its going in for a few bits at the end of the month....
has 4 falkens on it all with good tread but for some reason just doesnt feel planted..... doesnt fill you with confidence like other cars ive driven.....
the brakes are the worst though lol mate in the fiesta was on the brakes sooo much later than me... sure the roof flap acting as an air brake slows the car down more than the standard brakes lol

Modern hot hatches can give these cars a good run for their money these days. Although they don't boast big power, chassis dynamics have come a long way. Making them superior in the twists!!
Saying that! Someone is coming to collect my clio rs200 on Sunday and I'm going back to a classic sti haha

The renault sport stuff is great round corners that's what it's made for. But you should look after stuff mate regardless of how old it is. Don't get me wrong it's you car, just my 2p worth. But this attidude is why it's getting increasing difficult to find good classics.
Maybe consider a geo setup, £100 well spent I've always found

who said anything about being rich haha if you look at prices for parts you will see what im on about.... when a mass produced car like the scooby breaks there hundreds of suppliers, where as for the Rs's being al imited car the market is limited... but you are clearly a simple **** that doesnt like anything if its not a scooby
and i may well do if the scooby doesnt get any better with a few mods and i may do if i get any advise rather than comments like you need to learn to drive.....

The RS is a bit of a monster in the mid range so I'm not surprised a tuned one pulled away but it shouldn't have streaked away as you described. You should have comfortably beaten that Fiesta unless it was driven by Jason Plato lol.
There is probably something wrong with your car unless you're missing a leg or an arm.
To answer the title of your OP yes Scoobies are overrated by some but massively underrated by others. I think the motoring press' current opinion of Scoobies and Evos is a display of blatant eurofavouritism.

Mate if your car is properly set up with all the suspension mods as you claim and running just fine then if you got owned by a 150bhp Fiesta in the twisties there is only one conclusion left.... you need to learn to drive
