Default hello, new to sti world

Hello all.

Looking to replace my 2005 Renaultsport 225 and after being discusted at the price of FRS's ive decided i think a my08 wrx sti hatch is my move, tbh mre car for my buck.

Looking at a few atm and plan to veiw mre this week.

Any advice on what to look for above the norm? Any issues to warn me of?

Whats the issue with failed engines? Melting or cracking pistons due to fuel? That all sorted now? Seen this online and a car i looked at on PH had Engine work done on warrenty 4 piston issue, cnt help thinking im takeing a risk getting a early sti now (08-09) as warrantys due to expire.

Many thanks
Eric.

thanks mate.

the issue seems to have happend at low milage and not happend again in most cases on the new engine with the new map, so the car im looking at on 20k miles i guess would have gone and i think its on the newer mapping.

as for expensive to run in what way? just serviceing cost and fuel?

thanks
