Default to have or not to have dump valves!!

firstly is it just me or does putting a dump valve on your car cause all kinds of crap, in my expeience the car runs drives ticks over awful with a dumpvalve!
has anyone else noticed this or is it just my car even tho it seemed to be the same problem on my old astra gsi's and audi a3 turbo and golf turbos?

My classic sti ran slightly worse on tickover with vta, had one on my bug sti with no idle problems but used more fuel, think it depends on make/quality of vta.

The O.E. Recirulating valve is the best one you can have-reliable and more than able to deal with high boost. The only reason you'd need to change it is for when you go to a FMIC and the pipework can't take the O.E. one.

They sound very silly indeed.....

Wow we have a lot of newbys on this thread
Ok dump valves
Do a search been discussed thousands if times in scoobynet ll
They cause massive running issues ,fuelling and all sorts of problems and they sound stupid too
All the real enthusiasts laugh at the owners and cars with dump valves
End off

You would be a laughing stock at any show or club meet
They would be equal to
Spinners
Neon lights for underneath the cars
Washer lights
Any stuck on crap from halfords

And you would automatically become a Barry scooby owner

Please Newbys don't fall into the trap of becomeing a scooby chav owner

There is fewer scoobies left now and we must save them from the scrap heaps and we must get rid of the chav image that dump valves have

Many of the older respected members will come on and post up other sensible things why you must not have a dump valve :
We might even get 3/4 pages about it as the newbys post back to say they are cool and dig it man

I'm sorry bt a real enthusiast wouldn't mind what another scooby owner did to their own car! They would offer advise and then say its up to you.

After the engine is blown the real enthusiast would also say under his breath: I told you so but he would continue to help fix it...

I hope.

Agree with the above post. I have a vta on mine and I love it. It's upto me. I laugh at people who have stickers on their cars. That's the ultimate chav thing to do but if their happy then that's fine. It's their car so they can do what the want to it. If we all liked the same thing there would be no such thing as modifying.

what makes me laugh is that dumpvalves are criticised because of the sound they make and they are "chavvy" but yet running without one which also makes a noise is acceptable, so basically one sound is classed as chavvy and one is cool? do you think joe public knows the difference when you drive past them, they will think your an idiot either way.

as mentioned above i find stickers even worse and personally cringeworthy, or ridiculous coloured wheels like bright green or pink or orange, maybe its them that she be banished to the scrap heaps.

1 - the search function is crap , you end up with 100 pages of posts to read through. (maybe i dont use it properly)
2- well said RobsyUK

3-i have always said it , how can a car with a big wing on the back , big exhaust , gold wheels , badges all over it with bonnet vents/scoop NOT be chavvy ? (wether or not you have any of these fitted , they are all scooby traits) just because wee lads put fake ones on their rubbish cars ,or whatever , doesnt mean coz we have them we are the wrong ones. In my eyes , they are part of having a scooby with a turbo , and i like mine

I have one on my car but it was mapped at the same time as my front mount and injectors,I have never had problems with running issues on no turbo charge car that I have owned even in the 90's with my renault 5 gt turbo,I guess it's like anything in life you either want one fitted or you don't simples.no need for debate.

Not necessarily so according to RCM.
I have always advocated sticking to the OEM valve, but I was advised on a RR session at RCM that the OEM dump valve, although a very good piece of kit, was prone to leak boost above 1.7 bar, and they recommended changing to a good aftermarket make of recirc DV.
Sure enough after changing to a Turbosmart dual port my boost picked up 0.1 bar as indicated on two different boost gauges. Doesn't sound much I know, but having made the boost it would be a shame to waste it.

What about noisy exhausts? They are in the same bracket as dump valves aren't they?

I see the VTA Dump Valve haters have started. I've had 3 impreza Sti now of which I've fitted with aftermarket VTA DV with no problems with running AT ALL or blown any engines. I've always ran HKS SSQV which are one of the best. I did run a Bailey DV on one of them and granted it ran like a bag of nails but when changed with an HKS SSQV2 it ran as good as every.

To all those slagging off what someone does to there car GET A FECKING LIFE.
It's not your car, all the OP was asking is advice not all this Chav stuff and everyone will laugh at you.

Lordy! I seam to think a few of your good Subaru friends running aftermarket DV's are you laughing at them???? I hope not.
They are by no means equal to:
Spinners
Neon lights for underneath the cars
Washer lights
Any stuck on crap from halfords

Members do not go round laughing at another member if they have a DV fitted btw.

One last point Lordy! I think you might find your wagon and WRX are fitted with Dump Valves pmsl unless you have removed them and blanked them off so who's the chav now lol.

Just remember if we were all the same it be a sad world.

FAO the original Poster. If you want to fit an aftermarket DV go for one of the best like HKS SSQV. Stay well clear of Bailey DV. Your impreza might not like it or it might run totally fine with it.
