Maybe this should be named "which gearbox lasts longest when abused off the line"?
You have no selection of turbo's so what do you want to know? (what you have selected is very minimal, considering what is available and better for the same price, ie vf48 and the sc36 etc)
The crystal ball is broken unfortunately, what mods/power do you wish to achieve?

Vf series will give you more linear delivery. 16g is stronger but old type of turbo......I had it on my classic but swaped to vf30 an was much happier.

ive had my car 1 year and only launched it off the line 4 times.
i have a classic uk turbo 2000 standard just a decat exhaust and a remap to 268 bhp.
my mates jap classic 95 plate on a td05 has more of a kick and is 280 bhp, would be nice just to see him in my rear mirror one day.
The 2 turbos i was thinking of getting is around my price range £150 -£300 thats all.
I just wondered which turbo kicked in faster, im going to go for a japspeed fmic/pump/boost solenoid and another remap, hoping for 320 bhp.

The VF35 will spool quicker but will not match the TD05 for outright power!
The TD05 will be first past the post in destroying your gearbox too

TD05 16G is a strong, reliable, good performing and cheap turbo. It is very punchy and will make the power your searching for. I personally think it would be a good choice for you.
Remember you'll need one thats been front entry converted.

Just be aware all of the above turbos will give you over 300 bhp and around 300 torques - you may have no problem what so ever with your box (no trouble in 30k miles running 313/300 in my T2000 on a VF35) but at the same time you have to be aware that it's entirely possible your cogs will be lunched!

Can be picked up for around £150 for a good one. ace spool and will give you around 320-330 with remap and exhaust. the vf 34/35 are good but i would rather have the 28 as i think i best to have the smallest turbo you can to match the power you want. also on 440`s you want want to go much past 320 anyway.

I've recently been talking with someone who is considered one of the best mappers in the uk/Europe on behalf of a friend who also has a turbo 2000 and wants to achieve the same sort of power.

I asked him in his experience what works best at this level VF or TD and he recommended the VF range of turbos for the better spooling speed, two in particular VF 24 or VF 28.

So purely by the amount of cars he has mapped using this setup to achieve the wanted BHP as a end result this I what a passed on to my mate, price wise a decent VF28 sold on here a few weeks back for £150

How many miles has your car done out of interest?

If the car feels solid enough then I'd say go for it. My friend with my old car who want to do the same as you his has done best part of 100 thou now but the box is still fine as its been treated well.

VF is defo the way to go though for the spooling up speed, its far superior than the TD05 which was also a turbo my mate was interested in as he could get them cheap but having spend all the money on the other bits it made sense to top it off with a turbo that would archive the best for his setup

Just get a vf28 and run it about 1.2 - 1.25 bar and you will see about 300bhp. There is no point getting hybrid td04 as you could use the saved cash to get the car mapped. Also would not get FMIC for that type of power - as waste of time IMAO, keep standard intercooler or get newage sti when weather gets hotter to make all of the power most of the time.

Do not have a boost gauge fitted as car is standard but thinking if it was worth fitting one, not keen on the pod look inside the car
