Just over a week to Northern Meet 5, possible Aston Martin attendees + others
#3
Hello all,
Each time I organise these events, I invite as many varied, and in my opinion interesting, cars and their owners to attend, as possible.
At NM4, Mick, a chap I had met with TWO Ferrari 360 Modenas was going to attend, but unfortunately was unable to do so.
He now has just the one Ferrari 360 Modena and an Aston Martin DB7 Vantage, and TWO Escort Cosworths (one with a £26,000 stereo in it) and a Porsche 911 Carrera 4, and a big 4x4 of some description, and again I've invited him to attend in whatever car he fancies.
Then today I managed to invite a chap (Tony)with an Aston Martin Vanquish Volante (£186,000 worth), and a chap with a completely standard, immaculate 1983 Red Audi Quattro Coupe.
Tony with the Aston said that if he couldn't make it, his brother would probably be interested, but I didn't think to ask what sort of car the brother has.
On Wednesday this week I was in a garage talking to the owner who has a 432BHP Cosworth Escort, trying desperately to get to come along, but he will probably be match fishing. Doh!
However, one of his customers has a Ferrari Testarossa, and a 600BHP Porsche 911, (which apparently attended some Fast Car event and won whatever it was competing for, and has also been raced, presumably in a sprint against a F1 car!!!), whom he thinks would probably like to attend, and he is forwarding the information to him.
So fingers crossed.
So we are up to 91 cars + and the very real possibility (if the individuals I've met decide to attend) of a couple of Aston Martins, and a monster powered Porsche attending.
The one thing I find quite pleasing when I flag these drivers down in their obviously very expensive motor cars, is the attitude of the owners.
Once I start talking to them about the Meet, and how nice it would be for them to attend to allow other car enthusiasts, like myself, the oppertunity to see their cars and to talk to them about their cars, which they themselve probably take for granted, they seem genuinely pleased that I have bothered to ask them.
I half expected to be dismissed, with a 'sorry not interested' response, when I first attempted this type of approach, for NM4, but I recieved quite the opposite response, from people driving cars worth more than TWICE the value of my HOUSE, and more than TEN times the value of my Impreza.
I have had only ONE really snotty 'not interested' response, from a chap with a tatty MY98 Green Impreza Turbo. And he lives local to me, and I see him fairly often.
Its funny how we percieve people from their external trappings of wealth, and how wrong we can be.
Here's hoping some of these slightly more exclusive cars and their owners turn up.
Here's hoping.
Sorry for rambling.
Cheers MTR

Hello all,
I have just been to see Mick with the Ferrari 360 Modena, and it turns out I was wrong with the cars I thought he had.
He now has,
Ferrari 360 Modena,
Aston Martin DB7 Vantage,(he sold the other 360 Modena)
Porsch 911 Turbo,(he sold the 911 Carrera 4)
Escort Cosworth (the one featured in Max power with £26,000 stereo)
and wait for it,
A BRAND NEW Jap spec Subaru Impreza 22B (he sold the other Escort Coswort with 1,900 miles on it) not yet registered, bought last week.
He is getting it registered this week, so could bring it along.
He says he fancys coming but is undecided about which car to bring!!!
Some decisions in life are so tough.
Anyway, whatever he brings will be worth looking at.
Cheers MTR
