Sorry to vent the way I feel on here,
But I heard today that my dad only has a year to live, tops.
To say that I am gutted would be a major understatement, I've worked with him for 17 years and don't know what I will do without him.

That's a real **** RON.
I agree - make the most of the time you have.
I found out 6 months ago that my father would need open heart surgery unless certain treatments worked. These didn't work and he will have to have the operations.
It is just a large pile of total sh1te, and I know that no matter what words I come out with it won't come close to understanding how you feel.
Make the most of the time he has left and cherish every day you have with your father.
All the best to you and your loved ones.

No one can really say much to help you.
My father passed away last July. Just make the best of the time you've got left and don't be afraid to talk about it, or anything else come to that. My only regret, is that I left so many things unsaid.
Sorry mate.
Take care...

Unfortunately, nothing anyone says can really make a difference when you're faced with such shattering news. All I will say is make the most of the time you have left together.
You have my deepest sympathies.

Ron,
I lost my 14yr old daughter in a road traffic accident 18 months ago, I'm glad your going to have the opportunity to say lots of things to dad that you may never have had the chance to, my sincere thoughts are with you, it puts real life into perspective mate.

Thanks guys
Although it doesn't help much, I have every sympathy with those of you that have had **** chucked at you in the past, I am slowly coming to terms with it.
Cheers
Ron
Mellow,
very sorry about your daughter, being a Firefighter I sometimes find myself wondering what families are going through.
Just thought I'd clear something up, I worked with my old man, but I am/was a retained firefighter in the village that we worked.
We have decided to close the family firm, so that I can go self-employed and spend a bit more time at home.

Ron,
Can't really say any more than has already been said, but again, make what time you have count m8.
Obviously I don't know your circumstances, but I will say this....
....10 years ago my grandmother was told by her heart specialist that if she did not have a triple heart bypass immediately, she would have between 6 and 12 months to live.....she refused. I still see her everyday-she lives 6 doors down from my house.
