Default Oh dear, something has broken

Had a little meet with a few members today, on the journey home I opened the old girl up and something decided it didnt fancy it. In truth I could hear something whineing on the way there so something obviusly wasnt happy.
Got this quick vid shortly after it first started but got much worse the further I went

Mine sounded exactly the same, a week later the centre diff shat itself ...
Good luck sorting it out ...

It does sound gearbox related Matty, does the sound change at all in different gears?
Maybe its something simple like something touching on something rotating?
Is it more so from the rear?

It sounded worse on lift off. Did sound more pronounced when the camera was turned towards the rear seats(or where they used to be!) My rear diff has a bit of tooth missing, so makes a click on slow turning. (so it probably isnt that)

Yep sounds like its coming from the back but the last time I had a box **** itself it sounded like it was coming from the rear.
Still selects all gears fine but sounds bloody awful. Going to throw another diff on tomorrow and see what happens but I reckon its the box.

is that because you prefer the ratios or cost, your pushing 400 aren't you.

Yep over 400.
A bit of both really, I like how the 5 speed performs but ofcourse the cost factor comes into it. If I go for something else I think it will be a ppg and stick with 5 speed

Mate, I know you think 99% of what I post is crap (or whatever it was you siad ), but please don't break her. Yours is one of the best Scoobs I have seen on here with a spec to match! Find a way even if it means laying her up for a while!

You loosing your marbles or what.

After the time money and effort you've put in.

It's not like it should be a surprise that the box has gone with the power your running.

6 Speed was always going to be on the cards as part of the natural progression of the car.

If you break it you'll regret it for the rest of your life.

Man up ffs.

It's so nearly the complete package get a better box and drive it like you ought to, enough of this crazy talk of breaking it for spares!

First job of the day was whiteline ARB'S and solid drop links on Carls car. Nice easy job to start the day..

Next was to investigate my issue. First off we checked the gearbox oil for any signs of metal. All seemed good so moved to the diff. Got the car up in the air and removed the drain plug. Dipped my finger in and found this.....

So dropped the oil out to inspect it further and take a look at the magnet on the bottom drain plug. Found this...

Something obviously not very happy inside the rear diff as there was lots of metal. Luckily I had a spare diff here so we dropped the busted diff off and through the good one on.

New gaskets on the exhaust system while it was off (rude not to hey) and then filled the diff with some fresh oil.

All sorted, drove fine so car is staying in one piece,,,,,,,,, for now :-)

Big thanks to Carl too (thunder 8), would never of got it changed without his help. Bloody awkward job without a ramp..top lad carl.

Novel use for some weights

I know what you mean about the 5-speed - I'm pushing mine to about 350/350 in the new year and I don't want the hassle, weight or synchros of the 6-speed

Well done mate, really pleased for you.

Still think you need to get some pennies put by for a stronger box.

So there'll be no porsche brakes up for grabs cheap as chips then.
