Insurance question
I'm due to renew in Febuary, and would like a question answered please.
I have ( and always have had ) fully comp insurance, but currently my insurance provider won't cover me for theft at the minute because i don't have a tracker system fitted, even though i have an insurance approved thatcham cat 1 alaram & immobiliser .
Is it really worth the cost ( £300 - £400 ) of buying & running a tracker system ?
Will it actually bring my policy cost down, or just satisfy my insurance company that one is fitted and live ?
I personally don't see the point in spending ie £400 to bring down my policy down by ie £50 a year........Yes i will have peace of mind in the event my car is stolen, but i have that already with my current cat 1 system.....
Thoughts..

Try different firms, a lot of people talk about A-plan insurance on here, without knowing what car/ your age etc etc difficult to say but the only thing a tracker will do for you is allow the police to find it two days later when some ******** has trashed it, so would you really want it back?
Can't see it making that much difference to the price

i ve just gone through green light insurance (advertised on here i think)
im 36 ..8 yrs no claims ...declared my mods and is only 420 fully comp......
that is only 5000 miles and not used to commute to work ( ive got a van for during the week)
i did find tho when running quotes thru the comapre sights that not having a tracker wasnt saving much money at all...solike u said why fork out a lot to save not alot.....the only+ in my eyes is that u stand a bit more of a chance of getting yr motor back

My quotes are around 600 plus a year for my own iinsurance.
I am 37 have 12 years ncd and with directline my missus insurance they quotes me £340 fully comp if I had a tracker fitted but the tracker costs 300 quid to fit but £150 quid a year so is it worth it on a multi policy??? not so sure

Last year I paid £600 and that required an activated tracker, so £730 in total. (£1,100 without the tracker!)
This year I've just renewed wih a different insurer for £500 and they didn't even ask if it had a tracker, so well worth shopping around.
On a side note does anyone know if my tracker (Trackstar) will still be a drain on the battery even though its no longer activated??

As above, shop around, go to the insurance section and look at the sticky threads at the top..

I've just renewed through Aviva, they were't bothered about a tracker. Its fitted but i've never had it activated, Swinton weren't bothered either.
I wouldn't rush to the specialists unless your heavily modified i've found the above two to be much cheaper than A-plan, Keith Michaels, A Flux, etc, and will accept some mods remaps, exhausts, air filters and the like.

I tried lots of other companies in the past but always end up staying with direct line, as no one seems to be able to compete with them.......However my car before the wagon was GT4, i decided to treat myself to a complete new cat 1 toad a606i, with tonnes of added extras in favour of my standard issue alarm...total cost of just under £800 fitted, but was seriously miffed when my insurance company told me that it didnt make a jot of differance, what catagory alarm system was fitted, as long as it had one......
If that is the case, then why wont they cover my wagon ( or my other subaru - saloon ) for theft, without a tracker if i have a cat 1 systems fitted already on both ?
What is their issue ?
All i want is a fair price, for a good policy with a few mods declared and none of the usual nonsense....
