Default Modification Help

Hi Guys,

i own a 2004 blobeye WRX - the things its had done so far are:

Remap
Up-pipe
Down pipe
Full Scorpion system (decat)

Standard Turbo
Standard Gearbox
Standard Clutch

the car at the minute is at 280bhp but would like to achieve 325-330bhp then i feel i would be happy (until i get used and then want more haha) but i understand the standard WRX turbo is pretty maxed out at 280?

so the questions i would like to ask you fine people are:

A) Will a standard STI turbo be enough i think its a VF35 isnt it?
B) What do you guys recommend to get the car to the required BHP
C) Will i need to upgrade internals

Internals will need upgrading post 350bhp but the gearbox is only good for that anyway so thats what I went to (2005 blob wrx). I run scooby clinic up pipe and 3 inch straight through exhaust, cold air feed from fog (not required really), sti intercooler (not sure if this is required), pink injectors (2nd hand on here are c.£100), 3 port boost solenoid (group buy on here £45) and a SC36 from scooby clinic which got me 349.7bhp (if your only after 320 then their modified td4 SC32 might be spot on for you......A second hand sti turbo should be ok for what you want but personally I don't like 2nd hand turbos as you don't know how theyve been treated (exhausts, injectors, etc that you pick up 2nd hand don't really 'go wrong' no matter how hard theyve been thrashed before lol)

The 440cc (or are they 505/550cc on the Blob WRX?) injectors should get you to 325-340 - but it may be marginal.

The TD04L turbo needs changing - yes the STi's VF35 will be great VFM secondhand, as it is a 340+ turbo with great spool-up.

The WRX TMIC, I believe, may be marginal at 330bhp - not sure. But the Blob STi one is good for the 400-450 area. (Best ask one of the mappers re. the upper end of the Blob WRX TM's capabilites...)

Then a EcuTek or OpenSource remap to bring everything together.

280bhp+ on standard WRX brakes would scare the crap out of me - even with uprated discs and pads! I would spend some wonga on stopping as well. My old WRX was only running 270bhp but it would have stopped better if I had chucked an anchor out the back on a bit of rope.

Agree with all posts so far + I'd change to a Walbro fuel pump just to be safe.

Thanks for the feedback guys i think for the time being (obviously so close to christmas) i will be looking at getting the injectors, turbo and remap first i do have standard WRx brakes but brembo disks and pads ... they seem to be fairly decent but obviously when i breech 300 i will be looking at Brembo calipers.

i already have a remap by scoobyclinic but by the previous owner - will i have a license still or will i have to pay out £550 for another map?

ive seen a few VF35's go for £320 £350 mark ... injectors £120ish

so £500 to get where i want to be doesnt seem to bad ... then a further £550 on brakes & £180 - 200 on STI intercooler

Yeah, as above, add:-

Walbo or HRC 255 or 290 lph pump.

New fuel filter.

New panel air filter (or uprated, such as K&N, Green, etc.)

Oh, and don't forget to budget for the remap!

if you have the £££ then a brand new sc32 will be suited for your application. However it may also be an overkill for your limits. You could look at the vf34 or vf35 which are common inexpense upgrade for someone looking for the turbo upgrade.

VF35/34 can achieve anything between 320-340 some alittle more with supporting mods. I have an sti uk and thats got a vf35 and was dynoed at 323 but since recent changes and a further tweak am in no conclusion that it is now seeing 330 if not little more, but more importantly drives very well for this sort of power.

whatever you choose do your research first but i think for your application a vf turbo will be sufficient for your goal.

to change the fuel pump am i right in saying you have to take the back seats out and ... lift the carpet out to get to it?
