THEFT OF OSPREY EGGS IN PERTHSHIRE Police believe that the men concerned are keen on the 'high profile' nests and may well have an attempt at nests on nature reserves. We are now asked to keep an eye out for the following cars: Red Astra B255 BCN White Maestro H767 VAO Brown Nissan Sunny B413 FRG (especially keen on info on this car) Tayside police are on 01382 223200 Dave Dick at RSPB is on 0131 3116500

I heard it was probably done by collecters, being as the two sites were surrounded by razorwire which they cut these rissoles must be reeeeal serious collecters,are birds eggs that valuable,I thought egg collecting was a victorian pastime,scum bags.

It's a bit bizarre really, these guys target "high profile" nests, i.e. well protected ones. It's like they get a kick out of beating the security.
So it's probably not only Ospreys they'll be after, but Golden Eagles, Golden Orioles and others.
Egg collecting was certainly a Victorian past-time but is still thriving now. Strangely it is almost unheard of anywhere else in Europe, and seems to be a peculiarly British problem.
